Dean Brixey announces that Elizabeth Turk, a California-based artist and MacArthur Fellow known for her marble sculptures, will deliver the graduation address May 11 for the VCUarts spring 2019 ceremony at the Altria Theater.

Sculpture professor wins Guggenheim Fellowship

Guadalupe Maravilla, assistant professor of sculpture, is the recipient of a prestigious fellowship from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. The foundation receives approximately 3,000 applications per year; only about 175 are selected for the award.

Theatre student competes on ‘American Idol’

Theatre sophomore Seth Lyons advanced far enough through the early rounds of ABC’s "American Idol" singing competition that he was invited to Hollywood to continue filming the series. A tenor, Lyons is a longtime fan of the show and was overjoyed to advance past the audition phase.

The sound of 'Star Wars'

Music alumnus Gordy Haab (BM ’00) has built a career composing for films, television shows and video games. Haab is particularly known for his sweeping symphonic works—deeply influenced by his musical hero John Williams—that provide a soundscape for players as they navigate worlds from "Star Wars" to "The Walking Dead."

‘Invasive Queer Kudzu’ shows how 1708 Gallery continues to serve Richmond

Craft professor Aaron McIntosh’s “Invasive Queer Kudzu” project arrives at 1708 Gallery, participating in the city’s ongoing discussion about Monument Avenue. The exhibition continues a tradition of critical and relevant social engagement that began with the founding of the gallery by VCUarts alumni in the 1970s.
