Alumna's band wins global music contest

Richmond, Virginia, alt-rock band Wine & Warpaint’s talent and passion for rock music was recently recognized in a global music contest. The band was chosen as one of 26 global winners of Fender’s Player Plus Studio Sessions.

VCUarts alumna Colleen Christman (B.F.A.’18/A), a guitarist and vocalist for Wine & Warpaint, said that her VCUarts training, which focused on classical music, both helped and contrasted with her experience creating rock music.

Wavelength Lecture Series: Lauren Lee McCarthy, March 15

Lauren Lee McCarthy is an associate professor at UCLA Design Media arts and a Los Angeles-based artist. Her work focuses on examining social relationships in the midst of surveillance, automation and algorithmic living. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including the Barbican Centre, Ars Electronica, Onassis Cultural Center, IDFA, Science Gallery Dublin and the Seoul Museum of Art. This virtual event is free and open to the public.
