In addition to the talented working professionals teaching here at VCUarts, many outstanding individuals will visit campus this month, including animator Mike Belzer and sculptor Julia Haft-Candell.

The 2019 Undergraduate Juried Exhibition

"Home Sweet Home" is this year's undergraduate exhibition at the Anderson, juried by Rebecca Matalon, curator at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston. The show opens March 15, with round one of the MFA thesis exhibitions opening April 5.
A chat with Stephen Vitiello

In a Q&A interview, Stephen Vitiello, chair of Kinetic Imaging, sheds light on the recording of his newest LP with Taylor Deupree, Fridman Variations. The album captures Vitiello and Deupree's live performance at the Fridman Gallery in New York, blending melody and field recordings.

Wes Taylor and collective win $50,000 fellowship

Wes Taylor, professor of graphic design, is the recipient of the 2019 United States Artists fellowship in theatre and performance. Taylor shares the $50,000 award as a member of the artist collective Complex Movements.

Calling all alumni in NYC!


VCU Alumni's ELEVATE Tour continues with three days of events in Brooklyn, New York. On March 13, you can meet alumni Michael Hearst (BM ’95), an independent musician and children's author, and Michael Fisher (BA ’02), vice president of creative at Fashion Snoops.

Then, on March 16, you can take in a matinée of Come From Away, the Broadway hit with costumes designed by Toni-Leslie James, associate professor of theatre. After the show, James will lead an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre.

Dance theatre, animation and music come together

On March 22 and 23, the Anderson will host "22 Percent: A Disintegrating Data Visualization," created by dance major Hallie Chametzky with support from a VCUarts Undergraduate Research Grant.

"22 Percent" is a dance theatre, projection and music performance exploring the dissolution of Palestinian land. It features a solo dance and storytelling performance, an original score and an animation depicting the past 70 years of land loss.
