IDIOM RESTAURANT OPEN
Some of the best views of the Cape Pensinsula and the Helderberg Mountains can be enjoyed at this time of year (see top image). This week in particular, has been a sight to behold with many of the nearby peaks snowcapped after the cold snap of the last few days.
It is with this backdrop, that we are pleased to announce that our Restaurant at Idiom
will reopened on Saturday 24 July after a short winter closure.
The breakfast menu will be available from 09h30 until 11h30.
Lunch bookings commence at 12h00.
Some highlights from the Winter menu include a delicious Pork Belly Porchetta with Sangiovese Sauce, and the mouth-watering Karoo lamb rack served with artichoke risotto, otherwise try the Cape Bream & tomato ceviche for those wanting something lighter.

It's not by chance that you find a 5-a-side football field at the entrance to Idiom.
The Bottega Family are football mad! Family patriach Alberto represented Western Province back in early 1960s and if times were different may have ended up in Serie A in Italy.
Those of you that have visited recently might have noticed Roberto's proud Italian soccer shirt collection (shown above) on display in the wine bar, including a signed shirt from the Italian National Masters team that visited SA in 2013 to play the Bafana Bafana Masters at Soccer City as part of that year's Mandela Day celebrations.
Roberto played for an SA Italian Xi in a warm up match against the Italian Masters and was given the #5 shirt by Pietro Vierchowod, the legendary Italy and Sampdoria hard man, after knocking him over during an 50/50 aerial challenge. Yellow card? Possibly!!!

FEATURED WINE:
IDIOM SANGIOVESE 2016 SELECTED FOR TEAM SA 2021
Continuing our Italian theme, in our last newsletter we mentioned that we were very proud of our incredible Idiom Sangiovese 2007 vintage that fetched a tidy R1054 at the recent Cape Fine+Rare Auction, almost 4 times the cellar door price of the current 2016 vintage and perhaps 7 times the price of the Sangiovese 2007 when it was launched. A great investment for those that might still have a few bottles cellared!
With this in mind, we would also like to share the news that the Idiom Sangiovese 2016 has been selected by Michael Fridjhon to participate as part of the Team South Africa entry in the Global Fine Wine Challenge (formerly the Wine Tri-Nations and then the Six Nations Wine Challenge), a competition that was originally conceived to coincide with the Southern Hemisphere Rugby Competition between the Springboks, the Wallabies and the All Blacks.
"It is great to be part of Team SA again, and the fact that it's an Italian varietal wine from SA receiving the nod makes it all the more special given our family's heritage!", adds Roberto Bottega.
Tasting notes for the Sangiovese 2016:
Enticing and emotive. This modern and elegant Stellenbosch Sangiovese presents a tantalising nose and complex mouthfeel. Initial signature red sour cherry flavours develop into riper, darker fruit notes. Complex, earthy, leathery and cinnamon notes combine with savoury spices to enhance the sweet and sour profile of Sangiovese. A silky, well balanced wine to treasure and enjoy.
