AHSIE Conference Highlight with Adela Naranjo-Bernabe

Attending the Alliance for Hispanic Serving Institutions for Educators (AHSIE) conference was transformational. This year's theme was The Future of HSI’s: Leveraging Excellence and Cultura.  It was incredible to be in a community with 400 Leaders from Colleges and Universities all over the nation. Through cooperation, networking, and collaboration, a sense of community evolved. Three takeaways for me include The importance of creating and sustaining an HSI Identity—We are more than a designation. Second, realizing that we cannot do this work alone and finding ways to collaborate within every decision, service, or policy we create. Thirdly, the importance of ongoing learning to enhance Servingness while listening to our students' voices and our own. I will end my reflection with one of Dr. Gina Garcia’s Quotes, “Servingness is the Institutional response to students' needs”-Dr. Gina Garcia,AHSIE, 2022

              Transfer Student Highlight
                     with Marco Peña

My decision to pursue an Associates Degree and Skill Certificate in Publication Design at Cabrillo College carried me forward into an inclusive community and superb faculty and staff. The process of transferring from Cabrillo to CSU-Monterey Bay was smooth, due to my close communication with my counselors and instructors. I would not be where I am today if it wasn't for my counselors who led me on the right pathway, and my instructors who prepared me with the knowledge that definitely put me ahead at CSUMB. Currently, I am graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Communication Design with an emphasis in Visual Design. I will next pursue a Master in Science in Instructional Science and Technology at CSUMB, with the goal to open up better opportunities for my career in the near future - perhaps even to teach at Cabrillo!

E-Club Highlight by Kaylo Zubey

This Spring semester, the Cabrillo Entrepreneurs Club is off to a great start. Building off of the momentum from the Fall 2021 semester, the club has seen an increased number of members and more upcoming events than ever before. The club is doing collaborations with local businesses to host networking events and tours, having presentations from entrepreneurs and small business owners, and helping put on a local business showcase in Downtown Santa Cruz. Each meeting, different members participate in a "Business Breakdown", where they discuss any updates or request advice regarding their own entrepreneur endeavors. Students collaborate together to cover topics surrounding entrepreneurship, such as how to raise funds and awareness. Overall, this semester has seen many great ideas and events from the club, with even more to come.
