Thank you students and parents for such a great first week back to school. I would like to take a moment to address some safety reminders as we being the school year.
When visiting the campus, please enter through the West Gate from Woodbury Road. If you need to park, there are spaces available. There should be no unattended vehicles in the drop-off/pick-up loop. No parents should be driving in through the North Gate from Lake Underhill. The West Gate is a private entrance for staff and buses, it is not for public use and does not have an assigned crossing guard. Please adhere to the signs posted.
We have recently observed parents pulling slightly into driveways, onto curbs, or even just stopping on major roads to pick up or drop off children. Parking or stopping on a public roadway, on a crosswalk, or in the intersections, for the purposes of loading or unloading passengers is a violation of law. This may lead to increased traffic, crashes, and danger to students leaving or approaching a roadway. Please help us keep your kids safe by avoiding such action.
Students walking or biking to and from school should stay on the sidewalks and use the crosswalks to get home. Cutting across the roadways at areas other than designated crossings is dangerous, and also a violation of law. And, if biking and under 17 years old, you must be wearing a helmet. This is safety issue, but failing to follow this rule is also a violation of law.
I am providing this information because we want students and parents to observe rules and laws when on or around the campus. Please take a moment to review these points with your children so that we can reduce the risks. If anyone has any questions or would like additional information on these points, please contact the office and I will be happy to meet to discuss.
