Member News

On October 23-24, several members participated in the 2020 Special Fall Meeting, AJLI’s 1st virtual conference! JLLI participants included Feiona Churman, Laura Glass, Remi Farnan, Jeannine Weinberg and President-Elect Carol St. Jacques. One of the highlights was meeting Chief Justice Cheri Beasley receive the 2020 Mary Harriman Award recipient.

This fall we were thrilled when William Dunlop, of BSA Troop 204 Miller Place, NY told us that he would be helping JLLI with our Little Free Library project while working towards Eagle Scout status. Over several days in November, William with the help of retired scoutmaster Kraig Herrel, and scouts Leif & Anders Dalberg installed four JLLI Little Free Libraries that he helped fundraise for and built. They were in installed at the Sunshine Prevention Center Center in Port Jefferson Station, Island Heart Food Pantry in Middle Island, Belmont Child Care Association in Elmont and at JLLI Headquarters in Roslyn.  We are proud of William, whose efforts help us promote literacy in locations across Long Island.

Thrift Shop News

Melanie Haid featured our Thrift Shop in her recent article "Thrifting During a Pandemic." Click HERE to check it out in The Long Island Advocate.

The League has been fortunate to have a very talented window designer, Christopher Cooper, donate his time and expertise to creating beautiful window displays for the Thrift Shop. Be sure to drive by to see the gorgeous window decorations!

Thanksgiving Baskets

Thanks to the generosity of our members, friends, families and local businesses, nearly all of the items for our Thanksgiving Baskets, including food and gift cards, were given by donation! That means we did not have to spend money from our JLLI budget to cover the cost of this project and now those funds can be used for another important project or program. 125 families received a bag full of food to share a wonderful Thanksgiving meal with their loved ones. To show reciprocal support, please think of our local businesses who donated to this important project.
