The General Membership Meeting and December Coffee was held virtually on December 9th. Members enjoyed a festive meeting with an ugly sweater contest, holiday-themed games, a holiday stress relief activity and a special guest appearance from Rockette Kristen Smith. Sweet treats made by two local women-run businesses, including JLLI member Lauren Singer's Ellie's Bake Shop, were delivered to member's homes by the Arrangements Committee.  Many thanks to Meredith Nies, Vicki Creteur and the Arrangements Committee for making it such a special meeting! 
 

 

JLLI has again partnered with Family Service League for Project Toy. This program helps to give gifts to over 6,000 children and teens of families who would otherwise be unable to financially provide holiday gifts. Project Toy is a true community partnership, with help from many businesses and agencies across Long Island. We are thrilled to be included again this year! A huge thank you to members Jenn Grasso, Cristine Bruno, Laura Glass, Joan Yonke, and other anonymous donors for their generous donations. DIAD volunteer hours representing JLLI were completed by Alicia Aguilera, Joan Yonke, and Laura Glass. Special thank you to Alicia Aguilera for stepping up to co-chair this DIAD.
 

Thanks to the generous donations of local businesses, members, family & friends, we were able to assemble 125 Thanksgiving Baskets for families in need affiliated with 5 different local agencies - Yes We Can Community Center, St. Aiden’s, Family Service League, Christ First Baptist Church & Belmont Childcare Association . Below are some letters of thanks from the recipient organizations!

 

On January 13, 2021 from 1:00 - 2:00 pm, AJLI will host a webinar featuring Truckers Against Trafficking (@truckersagainsttrafficking) to discuss strategies that Leagues and individual Members can use to address the problem of human trafficking. Our Boon Supply fundraiser ends December 31, 2020 - so there is still time to shop!  40% of purchases go directly to The Junior League of Long Island. Note the cutoff for UPS ground shipping to arrive by Christmas was December 11, but you can still shop for post-holiday needs or orders can also be placed with express shipping for faster delivery.
