Community Service Fund

This summer our President Elect presented The Belmont Child Care Association, Inc. with a check of $2,000 from our Community Service Fund!

The Belmont Child Care Association (BCCA) is a non-profit organization which provides an early childhood education and development program at Anna House (BCCA’s educational facility) located at Belmont Park for children between the ages of six weeks to five years old. Their children are the sons and daughters of the New York Thoroughbred racing backstretch workers at Belmont Park, Aqueduct Racetrack, and Saratoga Racecourse. BCCA provides quality care and education 365 days per year from 5am to 1pm. This award was to help fund their Children’s Movement Program which teaches the children of Anna House to lead a healthy and active lifestyle.

Sustainer Happenings

The Junior League of Long Island Legacy Tree
Located in our beloved Thrift Shop, The Legacy Tree honors the memory of a Junior League of Long Island member.  Donations are pooled to secure an engraved leaf, and a ceremony is held to install the leaf. Our past installations have been beautiful with fellow JLLI friends and family in attendance.

Upcoming installations
Alicia Aguilera's installation date is targeted for late October. Date is dependent on Thrift Shop renovations timeline.

Susan Sommerville's installation date is targeted for Spring 2022.

All project proceeds from the Legacy Tree will underwrite expenses associated with Junior League of Long Island building and grounds upkeep.

For details, please reach out to Tyran Sullivan at tsul4377@aol.com or Liz Stewart at lecc122@aol.com
Sustainer Events
Stay tuned!! We are working on a fun in-person event slated for Fall (late Oct/early Nov) and one in-person event for Spring.  A Sustainer wide email will be sent announcing the first event beginning of Oct.

Nominate a Member - September Spotlight

We are excited to introduce our first Member Nominated Spotlight for 2021-2022, our Done-In-A-Day Chair, Lauren McBride!
Lauren was born and raised in Garden City, and this is her 4th year as an active member, 2nd with us, JLLI. Professionally, Lauren is the Vice President of Finance and Development for Clean Market. Her favorite Junior League memory is making friends with her provisional class; and she is most excited this league year to be back to in person events and get to meet her fellow members in person!

When asked why did you initially join The Junior League? Lauren responded, “I was such an active volunteer in college and once I got into the "real world" and the reality of a full-time job, I lost many of my hobbies. I wanted to bring volunteering back into my life and be able to help the community while meeting like-minded women.”

Thank you Lauren for being a wonderful League member and an excellent example of voluntarism!
If you would like to nominate someone please email Communications@JLLI.org with their name, position, and why you think they should be spotlighted.
