JULY 2022

Auxiliary President's Message
Happy Summer! As we kick-off the 2022-23 year, I hope we can all continue to come together for the betterment of our veterans, their families and our community. Last month, Auxiliary Treasurer Gail Teeple and I had the honor of representing our VFW at the Department Convention in Orange County, CA. As a first-timer, Convention was a great learning experience and I came home with some great ideas to continue to build up our Auxiliary.

At Convention I also had the opportunity to meet and hear about Auxiliaries from throughout the State of California and the biggest common thread that exists for all us was our drive to give to others. New this year, I want to honor and recognize our own Auxiliary members who donate their time, talents and more by starting the VFW Auxiliary 2814 Volunteer Challenge. The top three Auxiliary members at the end of the year will be rewarded with fun prizes with treats, gift cards and more. The points-based challenge covers July to May and Auxiliary 2814 members can earn points for volunteering their time or making donations to Auxiliary-hosted events, attending meetings and more. Visit the Auxiliary 2814 page on www.vfwpost2814.org for more details.

An easy way to earn points in the new VFW Auxiliary 2814 Volunteer Challenge is to simply wear official Auxiliary gear and we're making it easy to earn those points by taking orders for a VFW Auxiliary branded zip-up hoodie to help you out! Prices for hoodies vary from $24-$29 each plus shipping and handling. The design will be a white Auxiliary logo on the front left chest and on the back and hoodie color options are black, navy, red, or heather gray. Payment is not due until we have the shipping and fees from the VFW Store. Only Auxiliary members may purchase. To order yours, please visit this link.

We are beginning to make plans for this coming year so stay tuned for announcements on public events (yes, the Chili Cook-off is returning in 2023!), volunteer opportunities and some members-only activities.

INDEPENDENCE DAY IS JULY 4

Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July or July Fourth, commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence from Great Britain.

On July 4, 1776, the signers of the Declaration of Independence asserted that all are “created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” With these words, our forefathers formed a new nation and put forth a vision of liberty and democracy that would forever alter history. Every Fourth of July, Americans celebrate this pivotal moment in our history, which set into motion the development of a land of freedom and opportunity unequalled in the world.

Join Us at VFW 2814: Independence Day lunch on Monday, July 4. Complimentary hamburgers with potluck sides and desserts starting at Noon. The Canteen opens at 11:00 am.
