A Message from the Executive Director

Fun Time staff has been working hard to get to know the students during regular, everyday activities. When it comes to development and learning, no two children are the same. All children at Fun Time have been assessed on their skills, knowledge and behaviors in order to plan for effective teaching and children’s development and learning. Classroom teachers continue to observe children in their day-to-day interactions to determine what they know and are able to do by using objectives for development and learning based on school readiness standards. We focus on what matters most for school readiness by meeting children where they are and help them meet challenging and achievable learning goals while addressing the unique strengths, needs and interests. Conducting authentic, ongoing assessments is crucial to planning appropriate learning experiences and ensuring children are thriving at Fun Time. Family conferences will be taking place soon so teachers can partner with families to discuss student strengths, progress, and to set goals for the year.

Costume Parade & Dance Party

This past Friday we had so much fun celebrating Fall with our costume party and musical parade! Our kids wore their costumes and played instruments while they paraded outside in the beautiful, windy weather. We even topped it off with a dancing and singing party! What a great day at Fun Time!

Fire Safety Month

Did you know that October is fire prevention month? We have been teaching children about fire safety and the important job that firefighters do. Children learned not to play with matches, lighters or anything fire related. The City of Naples Fire Department came to Fun Time and explained how to prevent fires and what to do in the event of a fire. A couple children even demonstrated how to stop, drop and roll.

Introducing the Peter Manion Library

Through a generous donation from Shirley Hulse, we are proud to announce that the Peter Manion Library is now complete with bookshelves, books, bins, couches, a rug and more. This library has been supplied with wonderful titles from the Lion & Dragonfly Book Collections and hand-selected by Mary Beth Manion Morell specifically for Fun Time Academy. This beautiful collection of books will help instill a love of reading in our students. This library is a special addition to our center and will be enjoyed by our children for many years to come. We are excited for our students to come to the library each day and CHECK IT OUT!

In the Classroom . . .

The month of October was an opportunity for many hands-on learning experiences. Students enjoyed harvesting sweet potatoes from the garden, partaking in a Pumpkin Investigation and learning all about pets.
When children go out to the garden they can see how plants grow and learn about plant needs. Students used their hands and garden tools to dig up and harvest over 30 sweet potatoes. Our kitchen manager, Lorena, will use them in our weekly lunch menu when they are ready!
Students have been learning about fall leaves and pumpkins. They became investigators as their teachers taught them all about pumpkins and life cycles. They talked about the size, shape and color and how gravity relates to pumpkins. Children made observations and experimented whether a pumpkin would sink or float in water.
Students in Classroom 5 learned all about pets including what animals are pets and how to take care of them. They even took their pets for a walk.
