Liberty for All
Stakeholders Newsletter - February 2022

LSC Stakeholders,

We have had a strong start to the new year at LSC! As an organization committed to “chasing love and excellence” through continual improvement, we are constantly collecting data to measure our overall level of effectiveness and action steps to improve. The mid-year parent satisfaction survey data shows that an overwhelming majority of the 135 parents who participated agree that LSC exceeds their expectations, and 100% would recommend LSC to a friend. Our mid-year MAP assessment data shows that nearly 70% of our scholars met their personal growth goals between the fall and winter. We recently became the 79th charter school in the country to be admitted into the Diverse Charter Schools Coalition. LSC’s membership in the DCSC opens up numerous resources –that ultimately connect members with each other and with outside resources – to include funding, recruitment & retention of teachers, & professional development – to help improve their practice.

I am currently engaged in finalizing our 10-year strategic plan alongside our Board of Directors. We will soon share LSC’s expansion plans to scale up the unique educational model we offer so more children can access a high-quality education. We have never been in a better position to make a difference in the lives of the children in Sumter County that we serve than we have at this moment. Make no mistake about it: the LSC mission is one that will pay dividends for generations - this is our shared legacy, and I am renewed in the fight for doing better for the children here in our community. We look forward to sharing some very exciting news with you in the coming months regarding the future of Liberty in Sumter and beyond.

I appreciate all of you and the hard work and dedication you commit each day in and out as a valued Liberty stakeholder. Whether you are a parent, an employee, board member, or community supporter, please know that you are appreciated!

I am excited about the possibilities for our team & family this year and the big things we will accomplish together for our scholars. So, let us embrace the moment, seize the opportunity, and relish our good works that we will achieve by working together. Your love, guidance, and encouragement have created an invaluable foundation upon which our scholars continue to thrive and grow. Together, as one team, we will win one for the children of Sumter County. We are #LibertyForAll.

Take Action

We are excited to already be 100% fully enrolled for the 2022-23 school year, where we will welcome 161 new scholars to the Primary Academy. Would you help support one of those scholars with a $50 donation to provide them with two full uniform sets?

Parent Spotlight

Jenny & Kell Knopf, parents of Lane Knopf, a 6-year-old 1st grader

What attracted you to LSC?
We love how LSC addresses the whole child. Academics, community, social-emotional learning, etc. are all part of the LSC model. These components are integrated throughout the day and make for real-world experiences.

Why do you believe LSC is the best fit for your child?
We believe that LSC is the best fit for Lane because the learning environment is rigorous and engaging. Additionally, all scholars are taught to become better citizens and productive members of the community.

What has your child enjoyed the most since attending LSC?
Lane comes home daily with a new "favorite" part of school. She has especially enjoyed project-based learning and Spanish. She loves her teachers so much!

What are you looking forward to the most about your child attending LSC?
I am extremely excited to see how LSC continues to grow and make an impact not only on Lane, but our wonderful community.  I know Lane will continue to grow as a leader, scholar, friend, and beyond at LSC!

What would you share with those looking to become involved with LSC by donating time or resources?
Liberty is a unique place where scholars are challenged to be leaders in their school and beyond.  LSC will make Sumter a stronger and better community in the years to come.  By donating your time and/or resources, you can play a role in that positive change. As a parent, I thank you for your consideration in helping not only my child succeed, but so many others!

LSC in the Community

  • LSC Meets Their Goal for AHA - LSC has raised its goal of $2,000 for the American Heart Association! Nurse Katy has been engaged in a three-week academy-wide campaign complete with classroom lessons & read alouds that promote a healthy heart. She will be kissing a pig on National Pig Day, March 1, to celebrate LSC achieving its fundraising goal!
  • Giving Tree Campaign Gives to Our Scholars - Thank you to everyone who contributed to our Eagle Holiday Giving Tree Campaign. We raised $12,500! Half of the funds raised have been used to purchase a class set of iPads for our Project Lead the Way teachers to use to more meaningfully instruct scholars how to write code!
  • We're Reaching a Half-a-Million Words - LSC is excited to continue its momentum in the Million Word Reading Challenge with its upcoming benchmark check of 500,000 words! Currently, 95% of scholars have met the 250,000 benchmark goal. As part of Read Across America Week, LSC will welcome nearly 50 guest readers from the community into all the classrooms at the Eagle’s Nest. Scholars are encouraged to show their love of reading by dressing down from daily uniform requirements with each day’s dress-up theme!
  • Sponsor a Scholar at the Upcoming Book Fair - LSC is hosting the book fair from March 21st through 25th. If you are interested in sponsoring a scholar in need to have a book fair experience, please contact Dr. Trevor Ivey via phone/text (803-316-7849).
  • Books for All - Creech Roddey Watson Insurance, Inc. of Sumter helped to celebrate the yearlong journey towards our scholars reading one million words by providing all scholars with a special book to pay tribute to Random Acts of Kindness Day. To top it off, they read the book and provided a healthy snack to go with it!
