Talking Openly About Suicide Can Save Lives

September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. It is an ideal time to raise awareness on this stigmatized, and often taboo, topic. PTA leaders can use this month to spread hope and vital information to people affected by suicide by sharing access to resources that members of your community and your PTA  need to discuss suicide prevention and ways to seek help.

Your PTA - Be in the Know to Support Your Students, Families, and Schools 

Information PTA leaders and members need to know to support students, families, and schools:
  1. PTA Leaders should continue to reference our COVID -19 pages including FAQs, Resources for PTA Leaders, and Resources for Parents and Families
  2. Wildfires raging across California are currently impacting dozens of schools. PTA Leaders can find guidance for organizational response under "requests for relief" in our Toolkit
  3. State Superintendent Tony Thurmond shares COVID-19 Vaccine Infographics for Parents in English and Spanish, stressing that vaccines are safe, effective, free, and given to all individuals living in the U.S. regardless of insurance or immigration status. 
  4. Revised COVID-19 Public Health Guidance for K-12 Schools in California from the California Department of Public Health now covers extracurricular activities, including athletics and music, that are operated or supervised by schools regardless of whether they occur during school hours, including sports, band, chorus, and clubs. 
  5. EdSource Roundtable Universal Transitional Kindergarten: What parents need to know to explore the importance and impact of early education and how TK fits into the journey between preschool and kindergarten. Registration required, 9.30.21 at noon 
  6. National PTA's Back to Class Town Hall recording with the Department of Education and CDC.

Reflections Theme Search

Students are invited to submit themes for the annual Reflections Art Program that will inspire young artists to create original works. The deadline to submit your entry is October 1.

Resolutions Play a Key Role in PTA Advocacy

The California State PTA Resolutions Committee is welcoming resolutions for consideration during our next Convention. Draft resolutions must be received by 5:00p.m. on November 1, find more information and the Resolutions Procedure Book (a guide for developing a PTA Resolution) on our website. Early submission is encouraged.
