Dear reader,

Welcome to SWIRL project

If you have received our previous SWIRL newsletter, then you might know that SWIRL aims to enhance the development of teaching and learning methods and contents, to ensure students gain appropriate competences for future working life and make learning more attractive. SWIRL supports new forms of working through new forms of learning: letting VET students collect, execute and present real-job tasks using the latest pedagogical and digital tools.

In this newsletter we would like to present you the progress we have been making, but also some examples of successful company-student collaborations that are great examples for the project:

Students Experience

Real-life company projects for students

How is the experience of company assignments for young VET students? The SWIRL- Student Work in Real Life is enabling young people to enter the world of the world.
Listen to the stories of young students from all over Europe who have already experienced it. They will reply to questions like who is part of their network? why do you do assignments for a company? What kind of assignments did you do? What was the best part? How this experience will help you in your career? What would you recommend?

SWIRL Platform

SWIRL platform is now available online!

SWIRL platform has 3 main functionalities:

First of all, the platform functions as a place for VET educators and trainerscompany representatives as well as interested students to communicate with each other, express their ideas and questions, or/and monitor and complete tasks which are assigned to the students. Furthermore, the platform serves as the online resource base where all other developed Intellectual Outputs of the project will be available as Open Educational Resources (OERs). All the Intellectual Outputs will be available, free of charge and in a format that allows the adaption to local circumstances.

Finally, the platform facilitates the community of all SWIRL stakeholders, directly and indirectly involve or interested in the project. Facilities for discussion or sharing are now available on our project’s Online Platform for Vet education. This allows all members of the community to become an integral part of the product development. Moreover, the aforementioned Online Platform with its lively community of learners in conjunction with experts in the VET field will ensure that the regional and international networks will stay intact and active after the project has finished.

Partners meeting

5th Transnational meeting in The Netherlands!

SWIRL team during their meeting at BDF
On the 3rd and 4th of September, the SWIRL-consortium was ready for their 5th transnational meeting in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands.

This is hometown to Business Development Friesland (BDF) SWIRL partner. Since it is the beginning of the third and final project year, the consortium reflected on the progress and aims of the SWIRL products. One of those products that SWIRL is very proud of was the video made by BDF in collaboration with all other partners. The video consists of student testimonials from different partner countries and showcases good examples of student experiences with company assignments. This video will be published on the SWIRL learning platform and accessible for everybody who has an interest in it, highly recommended!

Furthermore, IED (Greece) gave a demonstration on our platform and the community SWIRL aims to create around it. It also showed how teachers can follow the progress of their students. IED also pointed out that the platform works on mobile devices, how convenient!

D'LAB school-company initiative
The next and last day of the transnational meeting the consortium paid a visit to d’Lab located in the ‘Blokhuispoort’ which is an old prison in the city centre of Leeuwarden. BDF did visit this school-company initiative earlier as you could have read in the previous newsletter. This time d’Lab was able to show the whole SWIRL-consortium what they are capable of. In D’LAB, students can work on real innovative customer assignments and in that way the companies have the advantage of access to the latest techniques, methodologies and modern technology.
All in all, we can look back on a very productive and fruitful meeting and we are looking forward to seeing each other again at the 6th transnational meeting of the SWIRL-project!
