ICAS 11 Final Delegate Information

ICAS 11 (Eleventh International Convention of Asia Scholars)
Convention dates: 15 - 19 July 2019

Dear ICAS 11 participant,
ICAS 11 is now only a few days away. To assist you with your final planning we are pleased to provide you with the following information for your reference.

Arrival Information Schiphol Airport 
Amsterdam Schiphol Airport has a good train connection to Leiden Central Station (every 15 minutes). After your arrival at the Airport, walk towards the central hall of the terminal (the so-called ‘Schiphol Plaza’). Train tickets for travel within the Netherlands can be purchased at the yellow ticket machines located in Schiphol Plaza, near the entrance to the railway platforms or at the ticket counters.
The journey to Leiden Central Station takes 15-20 minutes. A single ticket costs about €6. Should you wish to view the train schedules beforehand, please visit the website of the Dutch train service.

If you would like to take a taxi, please make sure to take a taxi from a registered company found at the taxi rank outside and avoid unsolicited rides from taxi touts. Please visit the official Schiphol website for taxis.

Pre-Registration – Monday 15 July, 15.00 – 18.00 
Registration and badge pick up on 15 July will be from 15.00 to 18.00 in the Kamerlingh Onnes at Steenschuur 25. We highly recommend those delegates arriving in the Netherlands prior to Tuesday 16 July to complete their registration on Monday 15 July.
Participants attending the 11th Engaging With Vietnam conference can collect their badge at the Oude Sterrewacht (Old Observatory), Sterrenwachtlaan 11, between 8.00 – 18.00. All other days EWV badges need to be collected at either the Kamerlingh Onnes or Lipsius.

Onsite registration
If you have not yet completed registration and still need to settle the registration fee, please note that you can only register at Kamerlingh Onnes, Steenschuur 25. Onsite registration is not available at Lipsius.

Speaker Information 
Delegates who are presenting at the Conference and wish to use PowerPoint must ensure that their presentation file is saved on a USB flash drive (each conference room is equipped with a projector and PC). Please arrive in your session room 10 minutes prior to the start of the session to upload your presentation and introduce yourself to the session chair. Presentations will be maximum 15 minutes. The ICAS 11 conference programme can be viewed here. You can find your presentation date, time, and location in the ICAS 11 online programme by simply searching your name or presentation title in the search bar under the dates. We recommend consulting the online programme as it is constantly updated with any programme changes.

All delegates will receive a hard copy of the ICAS Conference Programme Book during registration. Any changes after 15 June are not reflected in the printed programme book, but they are in the ICAS 11 Online Programme,

Opening Ceremony and Welcome Reception
All participants are invited to join the ICAS 11 parade, which will start at 15.30 from either the Lipsius or Kamerlingh Onnes to the opening ceremony at the Hooglandse Kerk. More information on the Parade and Opening Ceremony can be found here.

Leiden Asia Week
A variety of cultural side events will be offered throughout the city centre to the ICAS 11 participants. For a full overview of the events, please visit our special events website.
 A number of activities require pre-registration, which is on a first-registered-first-served basis.

Explore Leiden during Lunchtime
It would be a shame not to include the beautiful and ancient city centre of Leiden in your ICAS 11 programme. Besides having the panel sessions and various exhibitions in different buildings across the city centre, we have organised a Food and Cultural Market at the Pieterskerkplein and are also working together with different lunchrooms and restaurants in the city centre offering participants special ICAS lunch deals of around €10. Closing Party 
All conference delegates are invited to join the closing party on Friday 19 July (20.00-00.00) at the Stadsgehoorzaal, Breestraat 60. Venture through the various halls of the Leiden Auditorium, where you will find drinks, live bands, karaoke bar, DJs, and lounge areas. Unwind after a productive week with a dance and a song, and above all, some relaxing moments with colleagues and (new) friends.

Conference Photography and Video Recording  
There will be a photographer and filmmaker present over the course of the Conference, capturing images and video material. Any images and video material will be retained by the Conference Organisers for their purposes. If you have any issues with your photograph/video being taken, please advise the staff at the registration desk.
