Dear Campus Community,

I cannot believe it is almost the end of the spring semester. For many of our students, this is their last semester before they graduate and transition into the workforce. It truly saddens me that commencement had to be postponed but I look forward to seeing many of our spring graduates this December at our commencement where we can together celebrate your accomplishments.
There are a few things I want to update you on this week, so please make sure you watch this week’s Check-in with the Chancellor video, which provides a complete and detailed update.
As I mentioned last week, we would be forming the Executive Budget committee this week and members were announced on Wednesday. If you missed it, see my email announcing the Executive Budget Committee members. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to be part of this committee. I am thrilled to see such enthusiasm and engagement from our campus community.
The Montana University System (MUS) has established a task force called the MUS Healthy Fall 2020 Task Force. This task force will develop high-level guidance (which will be approved by OCHE and the Board of Regents in line with directives from the Governor) on how to transition our campuses back to receiving students in the fall. See the press release from the MUS which announces the task force members. Provost Arnold is serving as our task force representative.

In addition, we have also just established our MSU Billings Back to Business Task Force which will work on formulating a comprehensive plan for bringing back staff, faculty, and students to campus now and this fall. A task force update will be sent out next week.
It was also recently announced that our new student orientation will move to a virtual format for this summer. Many of you are involved in orientation and more information will be coming your way shortly. In the meantime, check out the virtual orientation registration page. I am impressed by our New Student Services and admissions team for their creativity in our recruitment and new student onboarding during these unprecedented times.
In my video I recognize some outstanding individuals who have really stepped up and supported our students during this time. In addition, I would also like to recognize and thank Sodexo for providing excellent support and care to our students: Kate Johnson, Kelly Sather, Andy Fulton, Rogerik Winrow, Jonas Jeffery, and Megan Hamavard have been instrumental in providing our students remaining on campus with great service and thoughtful and delicious menu options. They even provided an incredible Easter feast for our students!
Finally, congratulations to all our students who were recipients of outstanding student awards and athlete of the year awards, and additional awards and recognitions. I know they are well-deserved, and I commend you for your hard work this semester. Keep it up!
In the next few weeks, we will announce a plan to reopen the university and bring employees and students back to campus. Thank you for your patience as we work through this process and thank you to those who will be serving on our task force. It is important we get this right, as we want everyone to remain healthy.
Please take care of yourselves, your families, and your community.
Be well,
Office of the Chancellor
