Interviews with 5 Aging Incarcerated New Yorkers
Hoping for Freedom in 2020

"I don’t know if I’ll get clemency, I know that I might die in here. I can’t change what happened. I can only do better. Sorry is not enough, but all I can do is let my actions show who I am now is not who I was in the past.” -Richard Lee Chalk

This week, Gothamist published interviews with five  incarcerated older people in New York State prisons. Read their stories here

Please join us for a benefit for Dr. Mutulu Shakur this Saturday, January 4, 7–9:30 pm at Starr Bar, 214 Starr Street, Brooklyn: Dr. Shakur received a diagnosis of life-threatening bone marrow cancer in October, 2019. After a year of delay, we know now that Mutulu is suffering from extensive painful bone lesions, caused by a rapidly growing bone marrow cancer. He is 69 years old and rapidly aging in prison after 33 years of incarceration. In 2014, he suffered a stroke, which required several months for recovery. He has high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and vision problems from glaucoma. We fear for his survival and his life. Please join us to support him and his family.
