The month of May for me is the month of renewing my enthusiasm for Neighbors, Friends, Family and all that surrounds me. Enthusiasm is one way for me as well as others to give to those we meet along our journey a sense of feeling good and being happy! Remember the old saying, stop and smell the roses? There are certainly lots of flowers blooming in Cambria. Just another reminder of mother nature's way of saying Hello to us. I love it!
As we are enjoying beautiful days in our little corner of the world, most of us who live or visit Cambria think this is paradise! This gives me pause to reflect how fortunate all of us are to be living here. Yet not all of us are celebrating. As we look around, we may notice families, friends or even strangers who might need some assistance to see the beauty that surrounds them. A smile, kind word or a helping hand might be what is needed. I encourage each and every one of us to be kind to one another.
Our April program, “How to Travel in the Covid Era and Where Can We Go?” was presented to us by John O’ Regan, owner of San Simeon Travel. We enjoyed the information he gave us regarding the criteria to travel safely, how to plan travel after receiving vaccines and needed documents that are required to travel. If you are having thoughts of traveling, visit San Simeon Travel for your travel inquiries.
Thank you, Marissa Powels our CNC program co-chair, for our April program. Loved that we could see one other via Zoom despite being quarantined at home.
Want to say goodbye to Zoom meetings for now? Drumroll please! Our June outdoor luncheon meeting is happening, Yay! We will give you more exciting details in our June newsletter.
I look forward to seeing everyone at our next Zoom meeting on May 20th, 2021 @ 12:30.
Thank you for your participation in our Zoom meetings, as always, feel free to invite a friend, visitor or even a member who is interested in attending, we would love to see you.
As always, stay safe and well, I hope that all of you who wish to be vaccinated have already received the shots and feel more comfortable about getting together with friends. However, until we are assured that the pandemic is over, we still need to wear our masks and practice social distancing.
Wishing everyone Sunshine and Joy,
Cambria Neighbors Club-President
"Time Travel From My Desk in Cambria”
Throughout most of human history at least since the invention of thinking, which probably is linked to the invention of writing, a little over 3000 years ago, humans have viewed the heavens as a remote sphere, timeless and perfect. Over the last 600 years, that facade has gradually crumbled, and three innovations that occurred in roughly the last hundred years, within the lifetimes of people most of us know, has radically reshaped our understanding of the universe.
The clean, relatively dark skies of Cambria offer a gateway to travel into space without leaving the ground, and because of the nature of our universe, this trip is also a journey back in time. Along the way we will encounter many interesting sights many occurring before the dawn of human civilization, and the discussion will draw on the three breakthrough inventions to help make sense of it all.
Frank Widmann has been involved with astronomy since he got his first telescope over sixty years ago. After a career in the aerospace and defense industry he retired and moved to Cambria with his wife, Terri Pilot.
Don’t miss this fun and enlightening presentation.
