President's Message

Happy March! The February luncheon presentation was another way to learn what is happening in Sunriver. It will be fun to watch the changes Cecelia, the new owner of Hot Lava Baking, makes and all the new goodies she will be offering. Kent from the Sunriver Chamber was a wealth of information on what is happening in Sunriver and answered many questions from the audience. As always, Gwen Gamble did a great job moderating. Keep reading to find out what is happening at the March luncheon.

Do you have a March birthday? Plan to join us for the March Birthday Coffee/Tea on Thursday, March 25 @ 10 am. You will receive an email in March with all the details on how to “zoom in”. No RSVP is necessary.

On a sad note, Sharon Kushar lost her battle with cancer on February 19. Sharon was a wonderful friend to many in the SRWC. She volunteered many years for the Sunriver Art Fair and was a SRWC board member for two years. She will be greatly missed.

As always, thank you for “Steppin’ Up During this Difficult Time”! If you would like to discuss the SRWC or need anything, please reach out to me at (925) 708-4587 or srwcpresidents@gmail.com.

Happy Spring!

SRWC Seeking Art Benefactors

We are in search of local businesses, community groups, and individuals that wish to champion SRWC sponsored annual art events—the Sunriver Art Fair and/or the Art Auction and Wine Event. We are looking for art lovers who believe that it is important for the public to have opportunities to enjoy and purchase quality art, and/or wine connoisseurs who believe the community could benefit from additional local wine experiences.

There are various ways to be a benefactor — be a sponsor for events, donate art or wine, help publicize the event, and other opportunities. As a champion, the business, community group, and/or individual will not only be promoting the art and the wine, but will be simultaneously raising funds for the SRWC philanthropy program.  Individuals only need to appreciate art and/or wine, and do not need to be members of the SRWC.  Please reach out to others you may know that would receive personal satisfaction in being a benefactor and notify Linda Rico at lrico72@yahoo.com if any business, community group or individual is interested.

Board Meeting

The March board meeting will be held Thursday, March 11 @ 1 pm via Zoom. All members are invited. If you would like to attend, please contact Nancy Fischer @ srwcpresidents@gmail.com to receive the Zoom link. Please note that part of the Board meeting will be in Executive Session as the Board discusses and approves the slate of officers for 2020/21.
March will be the last month of scheduled Winter Fun activities. The snow has been good recently so there will be more snowshoe outings and hopefully some cross-country skiing on offer. Because of COVID, each outing is limited to 8 participants and 2 leaders. So far 32 members have enjoyed at least one Winter Fun outing! Outings are scheduled for the 1st, 2nd and 4th Tuesdays in March so reserve those dates for Winter Fun in your calendars now. Make sure you select “Winter Fun Activities” as an interest group in your SRWC membership profile to receive emails announcing details and sign up information for these outings.

Please contact Kris Besson or Helen Heeren at srwcwinterfun@gmail.com for anything related to Winter Fun.

March Birthday Virtual Coffee/Tea

Fundraising and Philanthropy Spotlight

Philanthropy Agency Spotlight

This year, with our fundraising events cancelled, so many of you have made direct contributions to our annual grant fund and/or our COVID-19 Nonprofit Fund.  Many of you have also given your volunteer time toward planning our on-going fundraising efforts and our future fundraising events.

This month we thought we’d share some of the words from just some of the thank you's we’ve received from our recent round of grant awards.

Please express our deep appreciation for your support of our work in south Deschutes County. Thank you for the good work that you do. We are honored to partner with the SRWC.

~ Dwane Krumme, Habitat for Humanity La Pine Sunriver

Please also share our thanks to the committee and Sunriver Women’s Club! Your generosity will make a huge impact for our Three Rivers students.

~ Mindy Holliday, Three Rivers School PTA

Thank you so very much for your continued support! We are incredibly grateful for the unwavering support your organization has shown older adults that reside in south Deschutes County.

~ Alice Ivy, Council on Aging of Central Oregon

Thank you so very much for making our morning here at CASA!  We are thrilled to have the support of SRWC in 2021.

~ Michelle Johnson, CASA of Central Oregon

You are the ones that make these grants possible!  Thank You!

COVID-19

SRWC Supports La Pine Community Health Center Vaccine Clinic

We have awarded $5,000 from the COVID-19 Nonprofit Fund to support a vaccination clinic at the La Pine Community Health Center.  After being approved as a vaccination site for their low income and high-risk patients, the La Pine Community Health Center requested support for resources necessary to staff up quickly when they received vaccine doses.

Local vaccination sites in the La Pine community are critical to ensure that low-income patients, especially seniors, don't have to navigate on-line appointments and transportation issues associated with going to Bend or Redmond for their COVID-19 vaccines. It's a first step in ensuring that these seniors can get back to connecting with family and friends thus escaping the social isolation that has plagued us all throughout the past year.

In addition, the La Pine Community Kitchen received another $2,000 from the COVID-19 Nonprofit Fund to continue to meet the increased need for food in the community due to the pandemic.

Together we are providing services for our most vulnerable neighbors, reducing their stress by providing access to vaccines and food.

Redirect Your Check for COVID Relief

Thinking about joining the “Redirect Your Check" movement, but not sure where the needs are and which nonprofits to support?  We can help you and every dollar you donate goes directly to nonprofit organizations meeting the needs in south Deschutes County.  If you would like to help, donate at https://www.sunriverwomensclub.com/Donation-Page, or mail a check to SRWC, PO Box 3334, Sunriver 97707.

Art Fair

Did you know that the Sunriver Art Fair is a great way to make life-long friends?  It’s also the largest fundraiser for the SRWC, and this year we have added a virtual art experience!  It takes over 120 volunteers to make this event a success. We have room for everyone to help, even if you are not full time in central Oregon. Update your online member profile to volunteer for the Art Fair, and we will contact you, or email us at sunriverartfair@gmail.com
