Join us June 7-9, 2022 as we gather virtually as a Passionist Family for our Assembly.
2022 Assembly
By Lissa Romell

This year’s Assembly, taking place June 7-9, 2022, has its beginnings in the very first sentences of the Passionist Rule and Constitutions:
“Saint Paul of the Cross gathered companions to live together and to proclaim the Gospel of Christ to all....Keenly aware of the evils that afflicted the people of his time, he never tired of insisting that the most effective remedy is the Passion of Jesus, ‘the greatest and most overwhelming work of God’s love.’”

That is our Passionist Family’s “Once upon a time.”  Three hundred years later the Passionist charism continues to draw companions to live the story begun by St. Paul of the Cross.

In June, we, who are 21st-century companions of St. Paul of the Cross, will gather at Assembly with open hearts to share our Passionist stories. In the interweaving of our individual stories we find our common Passionist story - past, present and future.  It is a story that calls us to “look at the past with gratitude, live the present with passion and embrace the future with hope” (Pope Francis, Letter to Religious, November 28, 2014).

Our Superior General, Fr. Joachim Rego, CP, reminds us that our 300th Jubilee year, which we will close with this Assembly, “is not a celebration of our greatness or our successes; rather it is a celebration of the blessings of God during these three centuries and the fidelity of innumerable Passionists who, through their life and their mission, and despite their human weakness and frailties, have kept alive the memory of the Passion of Jesus as a magnanimous and concrete act of the love of God” (Jubilaeum.cp Communication Bulletin: The Passionist Jubilee 01).
This is our story.
This is the story we celebrate.
This is the story we live.
Assembly FAQs
In preparation for the upcoming Assembly, we have prepared a few Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), which you will find below.  If you have additional questions, we are happy to answer them.  Please email any additional questions to Tim O’Brien at

Q. What is an Assembly?
A. A gathering of the Passionist Family during non-Chapter years to celebrate and promote growth and stewardship of Passionist life, ministry and resources.

Q. What is a Chapter?

A. An every-four-year gathering to celebrate the life of the community, to reflect on its history and discern the direction of the Province for the coming years. The Chapter includes the election of a Provincial Superior/Leader and his Council as required by Canon Law and the Passionist Constitutions and Regulations.  Collegial authority and jurisdiction rest with the General and Provincial Chapters, in accordance with common law, the Constitutions and General Regulations.

Our June 2023 Provincial Chapter will be the 36th in the life of Holy Cross Province and will continue its special tradition of involving both laity and vowed Passionists.

Q. When and Where is the June 2022 Assembly?

A. Due to the uncertainty of the pandemic, the 2022 Assembly will be held via Zoom. The event will take place June 7-9, 2022. The agenda will be forwarded to participants who register for the event. To register for the 2022 Assembly, click here.

Q. What are the times of the June 2022 Assembly?

A. The gatherings will take place
  • 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Eastern)
  • 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (Central)
  • 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. (Mountain)
  • 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. (Pacific)
Q. What is the Theme of the Assembly?

A. This year the theme is “Charism without Borders” and takes visual form in our Assembly logo:

Q. What can I expect from attending the Assembly?

A. The format of the Assembly will be prayer, sharing of our Passionist stories, as well as small group and large group conversations. We will celebrate Jubilarians, hear about the history of Holy Cross Province, engage with some of the fruits of our Visioning Process and celebrate the end of the 300th Jubilee Year of the Congregation. Participants will learn about the work of Vision Fulfillment that has taken place in the last year and offer feedback and ideas on how the Province should move forward.

Q. What is different about this Assembly?

A. This Assembly is grounded in the recognition that we are in the midst of an ongoing Visioning Process and that we are all visionaries.  Our last Chapter affirmed that the Spirit is moving among us, inviting us to deep, transformative listening - to the movement of the Spirit, to the signs of the times and to each other.  Rather than focus on reports of activities and initiatives, participants will learn about these things through sharing our individual and communal stories. We will gather in community to pray, learn and discern together.

As Joyce Rupp writes in her book, To Tell the Sacred Tale, “When we hear ourselves tell our own sacred tales, we discover more clearly what God’s desires are for us and ours for God.” This is our hope for our 2022 Assembly.

Q. What are the initiatives that will be covered?

A. Groups and committees have been meeting regularly, and many of the initiatives that were Calls to Action during the 2019 chapter have been integrated into the life of the Province. During this Assembly, we will engage with:

Racial and Cultural Diversity, Laudato Si’, The Passionist Way and Expanded Leadership in the context of our Visioning Process and our Jubilee call to renew ourselves and our mission to keep alive the Memoria Passionis as the ultimate expression of God’s love for all people and all creation.
Oh, how good and gentle is the spirit of Jesus!  Oh, how sweet are the loving ways in which he draws us!  How lovable his Divine Providence!  Let yourself be guided by the Holy Spirit.  Often fly into the most Holy Side of Jesus.  There you will remain as in an impregnable fortress.
