Provincial Finals Virtual Competition - June 3 to 6, 2021


Congratulations to Alice Li of Saskatoon, winner of the Beckett/Gustin House Senior Piano Scholarship for the most promising performer in Senior Piano, 20 years of age or younger. Learn more about the Beckett/Gustin House Senior Piano Scholarship donated by the L. J. Fournier Family of Prince Albert.
485 virtual performances were heard by judges Darryl Friesen, Winnipeg (Senior Piano); Alison Kilgannon, Sherwood Park, AB (Intermediate/Junior/Elementary Piano); Monica Huisman, Winnipeg (Voice); Leanne Zacharias, Brandon, MB (Strings/Guitar); Richard Gillis, Winnipeg (Woodwinds/Brass/Percussion); and Marion Abbott, Brampton, ON (Musical Theatre/Speech Arts). Awards Presentations were held over Zoom, where the judges shared their expertise with competitors and awarded 133 scholarships, valued at more than $35,000 in total.

Employment Opportunity with SMFA - Teacher Recruitment/Mentor Liaison
 
The SMFA is seeking a Teacher/Mentor Liaison to recruit teachers and mentors in communities where our 47 affiliate music and speech festivals operate. The position is a 10-month contract position and reports directly to the Executive Director.

Canada West Performing Arts Festival - Saskatoon in 2022

The provincial performing arts associations of Western Canada (Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia) have partnered to present the Canada West Performing Arts Festival!
The CWPAF will be held in rotation with Saskatchewan hosting in 2022, Alberta hosting in 2023, and British Columbia hosting in 2024.

We close with a shout out to all our District Festival committees and volunteers, adjudicators, students, teachers and festival supporters! This year of Covid-safe festivals has been rewarding...and a tremendous amount of work. SMFA is grateful for each and every person who contributed to keeping festivals alive during challenging times.
