(BILLINGS) - The Rural & Agriculture Council of America (RACA) is pleased to see agreement amongst Senate Democrats on the proposed Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.
The proposed legislation would invest more than $20 million in conservation programs and up to $1 billion in conservation technical assistance. The bill would also invest in clean energy development in rural communities, including supporting the production of domestic biofuels.
Further, the package includes over $60 billion to drive investments into disadvantaged communities including consumer home energy rebate programs, clean energy tax credits, and grants to reduce community health harms related to adverse weather conditions.
RACA President Jack Alexander issued the following statement:
"Two-thirds of land in the lower 48 states is privately-owned. Investing in working lands conservation programs and technical assistance, as outlined in this bill, gives us the opportunity to partner with U.S. producers to ensure the productivity and resiliency of their lands for generations to come.
"Further, rural communities are often forgotten about in the discussion of clean energy and clean home initiatives. RACA is pleased to see the prioritization of disadvantaged communities within this bill, including the creation and expansion of programs directly targeted to our members."
