Caleb Hamel

Physical Education

I received my BA in intercultural studies from Moody Bible Institute - Spokane, WA, and have completed half an MA in teaching through Liberty University - Lynchburg, VA. I am excited at the opportunity to serve this year as a Tier 1 License PE teacher at Edison. I enjoy reading, music, learning languages, lifting weights, swimming, sailing, cooking, and hanging out with my wife and 11-month-old daughter.

Katie Fling

Visual Art

My name is Katie Fling. I live in South Minneapolis with my husband, 2 little kids, and a dog. I have worked with MPS in various capacities over the years. I started out with Project SUCCESS working at Sanford Middle School, then at Folwell as a bilingual family liaison. They last few years I have been working part time at Pratt Elementary and am now very excited to be working with the morning Ceramics classes at Edison. I love sports so please reach out if you ever need a teammate in any staff vs. student games!

Danai Kerbaugh

English as Second Language

I received my Master's in Education for teaching English as a Second Language from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota and my Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Sociology from the University of North Dakota. Although this will only be my second year as a teacher, I have previously worked at high schools in SPPS to support ELL and AIS students. I am excited to be joining the Edison ESL team for the remainder of this school year and to get to know all the students and staff.

Tiffany Verbeke

Physics

I am thrilled to be the new Physics teacher at Edison in room 228! I received both my Bachelors in Biology and Masters in Science Education from Iowa State University and have 8.5 years of teaching experience.

I love teaching science because it gives us a unique, valuable way of looking at the world. Through the lens of science, students can not only see the beauty of the world around them but can learn to seek evidence for all assertions and to discriminate against competing claims. As a science teacher at Edison, my hope is that my students see the value of asking questions, being creative, collaborating, and thinking critically by studying and doing science. Even if a student has no intention of going into a career in science, I hope they can learn and utilize these skills which are applicable to any career path and arguably enriching to their lives.

When I’m not teaching, I enjoy cooking and doing outdoor activities with my family, such as hiking, cycling, and snowshoeing.

I’m looking forward to working together and becoming part of the Edison community!
