The Dark Web-ID TheftSmart Can Help Protect Your Personal Data

The internet has become an important part of our lives. We depend on the internet for access to current events, information about events and activities, news about our favorite activities, social media access and much, much more. The internet is a worldwide network of computer networks. With the appropriate access credentials, you can gain access to the information you need.

Browsers help users find the information they need. Browsers like Google Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer are built to make it easy for users to find the information they need. These browsers have indexed the information on the internet to allow us to perform fast searches of the vast data on the internet.

Not all data is carefully indexed and available on traditional browsers. There is another world just beneath the surface called the Dark Web. The information on the Dark Web is not indexed and is only available with special tools. Users are generally anonymous and the content can be disturbing. Cybercriminals use the Dark Web to buy and sell hacking tools. Other nefarious activities include drug trafficking, trading in illegal goods, anonymous message boards with illicit content, and buying and selling of personal information. This information could include financial information as well as information that could be used to steal a person’s identity.
Law enforcement agencies are actively probing the Dark Web to track down and arrest criminals trying to hide on the Dark Web. Special law enforcement units have been created to actively pursue cybercriminals. In addition, private companies have started working on ways to combat these cybercriminals.

Settlers Bank offers a service called ID TheftSmart, trademark pending, that monitors the Dark Web for activity of customers that are enrolled in this product. During the enrollment process, our customer enters specific information including Social Security Number, credit card numbers, bank account numbers, and other personal information (will only be used to protect your identity). You are notified if your information is identified during the search of the Dark Web. This process is performed monthly and serves as a valuable tool in your defense against cybercriminals.
Please contact one of our customer service representatives to learn more about this valuable tool. Protection again cybercrime is serious business and ID TheftSmart is a serious monitoring service.

The nicest thing about the rain is that it always stops. Eventually.

Are You Using Alerts?

Settlers Bank’s Internet Banking comes loaded with security features. “Alerts” is a very useful tool in protecting your account. Alerts can be set related to account activity, messaging, or account security.
One type of account activity alert can be set to report to you your daily balance. If you would prefer not to get a notice every day you can set this up for weekly or other frequencies. Other alerts can let you know when your balance goes below a balance you set. You might also want to know if a large (you define the amount) transaction posts to your account.
Messaging alerts let you know when you have a message within internet banking. Periodically the system will post a notice to internet banking and these alerts will prompt you to view the message.
Security alerts are particularly valuable. These alerts can tell you when your password has changed or if other security-related information has changed. These alerts can be set to tell you about online transfers or about external transfers.
Delivery of alerts is dictated by you. You can elect to have the alerts sent via text or email. You may also decide to have some alerts sent via text and others via email.
Alerts are built into internet banking. We encourage you to use them to help manage and protect your online presence.
