President's Notes

Dear GFMC members:

We had a wonderful Fall Conference at PianoWorks and virtually on Zoom, on September 19, 2021 with our headliner, Dr. Jason Sifford! If you missed it, you missed a treat! Dr. Sifford did three sessions, the first being ‘Using Manipulatives in the Studio’, followed by ‘Preparing to Be Unprepared (how to handle imperfect situations)’, and lastly ‘Writing Music for Your Students’. We also had outstanding performances by our Junior Composers and Scholarship Winners for Continuing Education, Bailey-Cobb, and Floride Dean! We celebrated the 100 + 1st birthday of the Georgia Federation of Music Clubs with a delicious cake at lunch! Our State Festival Chair, Debra Hughes, presented all the Area Chairs who were present with chocolate and an American flag. We also had some fabulous door prizes donated to us by PianoWorks.

Area Chairs Reminders
AREA CHAIRS:  Hopefully, you have entered your teachers' information and their students' history into VIVACE. We've been answering lots of questions and are prepared to answer yours too. Questions to Debra Hughes: bndhughes@comcast.net
 
FINANCE reminder to AREA CHAIRS: All Festival finances are to be kept in separate accounts and ONLY for Festival use. Any money that may be leftover each year can be saved for expenses for the following year. It should not be a large amount. Extra monies can be used for scholarships for students but NEVER to pay wages of employees, be pocketed, or go to teachers.
Music Teachers and Musicians Needed

Hawk Music Academy is in need of music instructors! We offer both in-person and online lessons in piano, voice, violin, viola, cello, ukulele, guitar, theory, and composition. HMA is located in the beautiful Vickery Village shopping plaza in Cumming. HMA is the host of the Cumming Federation Festival and is also affiliated with the Symphony Orchestra of North Georgia (SONG).

The Symphony Orchestra of North Georgia ( SONG), co-founded by Drs. Dawn and Eric Hawk, is looking for musicians of all ages. SONG is a nonprofit (501c3 applied) organization with rehearsals in Cumming and concerts in the north Georgia region. The Hawks co-founded the Alpharetta Symphony, where Eric served as the music director for the past 7 years. 

SONG has 3 ensembles available with in-person and online options:

  • Adult Community - Open to amateurs and professionals in all areas - strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. 
 Auditions are available year round for open positions.
  • Youth Orchestra - For intermediate through advanced students in all areas - strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion 
 Auditions are also available year round for open positions.
  • Youth Discovery Strings - Open to beginner strings - *No audition required

Come join us! Invite your students to audition!
