November 2018 Newsletter

November 12, 2018
6:30 P.M.

Due to the observance of Veteran's Day, the library will be closed.   However, we will meet in the library parking lot to go on a photo-walk.  We will break up into small groups and work together to photograph the many beautiful structures, buildings, and people of the Woodlands Waterway. Each group will be led by a member of the Leadership Team and will be given a small challenge to complete by the end of the evening’s meeting.

The leaders will be there to assist you with your nighttime photography challenges. At 8:30 P.M. we will reconvene in the parking lot to discuss the challenges and to share experiences. Each group will be asked to prepare a short presentation to show at the December meeting.

All attendees should bring bring a camera, tripod, flashlight, and a bottle of water for this meeting.   If you don’t have all these items, bring what you can and we will show. You how to shoot with what you have. Please wear comfortable walking shoes.  We hope to see you there.  In the event of inclement weather, we will meet at the mall, and an email will be sent to all members of the club with the new meeting place.

November 17, 2018
12 - 5 P.M.
Huntsville State Park

The WPC November field trip will be to Huntsville State Park on Saturday, November 17, 2018 hopefully to see and photograph some fall foliage. This will be from Noon – 5:00 p.m. +/- in order to take advantage of the golden hour light. Here is the website for Huntsville State Park for more information:  We will meet in the parking lot of the United Methodist Church across from the Loft in the Woodlands for a noon departure. The price of this trip will be $7 per person admission to the park. The admission fee will be collected when we meet for carpooling. We will stop for a ‘dutch’ lunch on the way. The place TBD – suggestions are welcome. I am not sure at this time if I will be at the November general meeting with the sign-up sheet for this field trip. If you would like to join us, please email me at and I will add you to the list. I understand that the Woodlands Camera Club will also be going to Huntsville State Park on this same day but at a different time of day. If you are a member of both clubs but would like to travel with the Camera Club, please let me know as well so that you can get ‘credit’ for attending this field trip toward any images you might want to enter in next year’s Fall Contest.   If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me at Hope to see many of you on this trip.

Thank you.

Glam Shots for Cats & Dogs
Montgomery County Animal Shelter

Every Sunday the photography team creates stunning glamour shots of the shelter animals to make it easier for them to get adopted. Anyone interested in being a photographer, please send an email to to receive the guidelines before coming. Assistants are fine to just show up (as long as they have gone through volunteer orientation). Volunteers are always needed to help take animals to and from their cages, pet them, walk them, or even distract them. Photography skills are not needed to help out, just a love for animals.
