Volunteers Needed For Skillathon Interviews

We are in need of volunteers to help with two evenings of our 4-H/FFA/Junior Fair Skillathons on June 15 and 19 at the Wayne County Fair Event Center. If you’re interested, please click on the button below and complete the survey.

Please note the following schedule for both nights:

  • Volunteer check-in and dinner starting at 5:30 p.m.  A short briefing for instructions for volunteers will begin at 6 p.m. (please be on time for the briefing / instructions)

  • Skillathon will run from 6:30- 9:00 pm.

  • Please sign up to volunteer by June 1, 2023.

  • If you have any questions, please contact the OSU Extension Office at 330-264-8722.

All Animal / Livestock Record Books and

OME / OBE Posters Due at Late Project Judging on August 8th

Members may turn in their animal or livestock record books to their club advisor to turn in as a group ahead of time or may bring their books and drop off at the Event Center on the evening of August 8th from 6-9 pm.  All books will be graded that evening and returned to club advisors when they pick up the club’s fair passes and show numbers.  OME and OBE posters will also be due this same evening.

Animal ID Now Open

Now that our club / project enrollment deadline of April 1st has passed, families may begin inputing their Animal ID information into 4-HOnline.  Animal ID is due for all possible animals (primary and backups) that could possibly be brought to the fair by June 1st for all animal types except Market Rabbits and Market Poultry which are due August 1st.  Step by step instructions and help sheets and videos are available online at our 4-HOnline help page - simply click the button below to access them.

Members will be given the opportunity to have their photos taken with their projects upon turning in their judging evaluation sheets. Photos will be displayed as part of the State Fair Awards program. Those who plan to participate in the Style Revue will need to complete their narration card at judging. Have a great 4-H project year!

Swine and Feeder Calf Tags Now Available

Breeders’ and/or exhibitors’ families may stop in and pick up Swine Tags and/or Feeder Calf Tags at the Wayne County Extension Office during regular business hours Monday through Friday 8 am - 4:30 pm. All market hogs and feeder calves must be tagged and information entered in 4-HOnline Animals Section by 11:59 pm on June 1st. Taggers are also available to be checked out but must be returned to the Extension Office within 3-business days.

Statewide Livestock Exhibition Rules Published

The Ohio Department of Agriculture, Ohio FFA, and OSU Extension State 4-H Office recently compiled and published an updated listing of Statewide Livestock Exhibition Rules. All 4-H and FFA families are encouraged to read over these rules and be familiar with them. While many of these rules are not new - they have existed for many years but this document pulls many of them together into a central place.
