Meet the McRees
Autism ETC’s Family of the Month

 
Imagine driving 90 miles one way, 5 days a week, so your child can receive the therapy he desperately needs.  This is what the McRee family has done for almost three years to receive services at the Autism ETC Nashville location.  The McRee family includes Aaron (dad), Kimberly (mom), Liam who is six years old and baby brother Logan, who is 10 months old. 
 
Liam’s story begins when he was about 5 months old.  Kimberly started noticing things did not seem quite right with him.  “I talked to my pediatrician about my concerns, but she told me not to worry,” said Kimberly.  “But the abnormalities continued, and we changed pediatricians. Our new physician recommended we go to Vanderbilt for a diagnostic evaluation.  Liam was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder when he was 3 years old.”   Kimberly went on to say, “Liam started the preschool program at Vanderbilt, but continued to have behavioral issues.  I felt like he needed one-on-one help so I started looking for services on the internet.  I googled behavioral therapy

Family Grants Available In July

As a service to our families, Autism ETC has researched and found grants that may be available to families and individuals affected by ASD.  Grants are limited sources of money offered by companies and foundations to help with medical, transportation, and other expenses.  We encourage you to apply for any and all grants for which you may qualify
  • Act Today Grant - Funding for effective treatments, assessments, and needed life supports - www.act-today.org/act-today-grant-program.php 
  • Small Steps in Speech - For speech therapy - does not cover iPads or ABA therapy - www.smallstepsinspeech.org/grant-application/individuals/

Grants Available Anytime:

  • United Healthcare Children's Foundation - Covers medical services or equipment up to $5000.00 per year/$10,000 lifetime (a family does not have to have United Healthcare insurance to apply) - www.uhccf.org/apply-for-a-grant
  • C.A.R.E Foundation (California Autism Resource & Evaluation Foundation - Helps families with medication, autism diagnosis/evaluation, therapy sessions (including speech, OT & ABA), or autism summer camps - www.careautismfoundation.com/family-funds/
  • National Autism Association - Provides communication devices to individuals with autism who are non-verbal or minimally verbal, and whose communication challenges put them at risk of injury or harm - www.nationalautismassociation.org
  • Autism Escapes - Air transportation for medical appointments - www.autismescapes.org
  • First Hand - Covers expenses for treatment, equipment, displacement lodging, vehicle modifications - www.firsthandfoundation.org
  • Modest Needs - Helps families experiencing a financial crisis including medical expenses - www.modestneeds.org
  • NSW Kids Program - The Seal Foundation - for Navy Seal Families Only - Covers direct educational, diagnostic testing, services, and tutoring/mentoring - www.sealfamilyfoundation.org

Staff Accomplishments & Promotions


June was a very exciting month at Autism ETC.  At Autism ETC Clarksville Megan Adkins & Brittany Farmer passed their BCBA exam and are Board Certified Behavior Analysts.  Danielle Sallam & Danielle Montrouil passed their RBT exam and are Registered Behavior Technicians.  Ashley Hartwig has been promoted to Education Coordinator and we welcome Mandi Hampton to the staff becoming our second Education Coordinator for Clarksville.

At Autism ETC Nashville, Sharry Gendi passed her RBT exam and is a Registered Behavior Technician.
