It's Hang Time!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Sonoma is unique."
While sipping our Sonoma, world-class
wines, m
ost wine consumers would readily agree with this statement.
Vintages like “Vintage 2019,” continue to prove, that Sonoma's terroir makes for a perfect spot to grow some of the best wine grapes in the world.
With that said, every vintage has its issues and concerns.
What issues and concerns,
are we facing for “Vintage 2019"?
All year, “Vintage 2019” has been on the
slow road to greatness.
The late rains caused the saturated soils to delay bud-break.
From there, our weather and growth timing, are now in sync.
In simple terms, this growing year has been another
picture-perfect season. Our crop will be a little less than
last year's vintage, but in the end will create some great concentrated wines.
It is always quality, versus quantity and quality is winning!
Our only concern is, that Mother-Nature keeps up the great weather for another month and a half.
Our early harvested varieties,
like Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, can’t handle much,
if any, rain during its ripening stage.
Other varieties, can handle a little precipitation, but most growers would love to see a rain-free, harvest season.
In the next few weeks we will be entering what we call
“Hang Time Mode.”
The grapes are slowly maturing and collecting
eunique flavors.
Ripening time, is a very vulnerable period for our
wine-grapes, and we are all hoping for warm weather without a lot of morning fog
Birds and Turkeys and Deer, Oh My!
Birds can be an issue during harvest,
like us they love to eat grapes!
Bird netting is the best defense to help protect the crops from our feathered friends;
but many times, just installing shiny, Mylar tape
high in the canopy, is enough.
Another pest this time of year is the yellow jacket.
They can eat part of the grapes which cause small holes and they become unpickable.
Not to mention, that many pickers,
after being stung while harvesting, would say that
yellow jackets do a lot more than just hurt the fruit
Deer,  turkeys and pigs also like to eat grapes, but normally  they don’t eat enough to cause concern.
Deer are more of an issue at the beginning of the season when they feed on the tender young shoots.
So far, our journey down the slow road to greatness, has had very few bumps along the way, and is turning out to be one of the best growing seasons we have seen for a while.
Hopefully as we turn the corner to harvest,
the birds, bees, pigs, turkeys, deer and mostly,
Mother Nature
will take it easy on us and
lets this season end the way it started.
Slow, Steady and Exceptional!
“Olive Sonoma”
Arbequina Olive Oil,
just so happens to be David Cook’s and my favorite.
AND
Won a  Gold AWARD  at the
2019 World Olive Oil Competition
“Olive Sonoma” Arbequina, is a well-balanced olive oil,
with tasting sensations of Almond, Celery, Chamomile and Black Pepper
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Arbequina goes well drizzled over meats to bring out their intense flavors.
It’s also great in pesto (I use it in mine) and salad dressings.

Interesting fact:  A customer recommends using Arbequina for baking.  She told me that she substitutes it for butter and used it in her Brownie Recipe!

Normally $16.00 a bottle

Now On Sale for $14.00 a bottle.

And if you purchase a bottle of Arbequina,
buy any other varietal for $14.00 a bottle
