“Crush 2019” has officially begun in Sonoma...

for sparkling wines.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There are three grape harvest seasons in Sonoma.
The first is the Sparkling wine harvest.
The second is the still wine harvest for the early ripening varieties, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
Followed by the longer ripening varieties; Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Zinfandel
and a few others.
What are the differences of the
three harvest seasons in Sonoma?
First, Sparkling Wine is produced from grapes
with less natural sugar than all others.
They hit their target brix level (sugar level) for harvesting very early in the season.
It is not uncommon to have a harvest date in early August.
Our second harvest season is,
the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir harvest,
which we use for still wine production.
(still wine, is the term for any non-sparkling table wine).
These varieties, always begin their growing season,
earlier than their counterparts (late Reds and Whites)
and are normally harvested at a lower brix.
With the latest round of high day-time temperatures,
our Pinot Noir and Chardonnay harvest,
will begin in about 10 days.
The third harvest season
is the later ripening, Red and White Varieties
Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Syrah, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and a few others.
So far, the weather has been cooperating,
for their continued ripening,
and we are around three weeks away from their harvest.
All three-harvests
come with their challenges.
Sparkling wine,
is
typically one of the easiest on the stress level factor,
 due to the fact, that it usually doesn't rain in August.
The second harvest has it concerns,
due to its vulnerability to early rains.
Chardonnay and Pinot Noir have thin grape skins
and can be highly affected by rain, in a negative way.
The third harvest season varieties,
are a little heartier, and are not affected by a little drizzle.
However, due to their harvest being later in the year,
they are more susceptible to the larger rain events.
Even-though we categorize the three harvest seasons by the different varietals, as with anything,
there are always exceptions to the rules.
This year, our harvest season “crush”
will continue into late October.
“Vintage 2019” is looking great, but as we always say,
“Only Time will only tell."
Quote of the Week:
"Do not measure success by today's harvest.  Measure success by the seeds you plant today."
                                                       Robert Lewis Stevenson
“Olive Sonoma”
Arbequina Olive Oil,
just so happens to be David Cook’s and my favorite.
AND
Won a  Gold AWARD  at the
2019 World Olive Oil Competition
“Olive Sonoma” Arbequina, is a well-balanced olive oil,
with tasting sensations of Almond, Celery, Chamomile and Black Pepper
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Arbequina goes well drizzled over meats to bring out their intense flavors.
It’s also great in pesto (I use it in mine) and salad dressings.

Interesting fact:  A customer recommends using Arbequina for baking.  She told me that she substitutes it for butter and used it in her Brownie Recipe!

Normally $16.00 a bottle

Now On Sale for $14.00 a bottle.

And if you purchase a bottle of Arbequina,
buy any other varietal for $14.00 a bottle
