Mother Nature Is Always In Charge!

“Vintage 2019” harvest is in full-swing,
and by our counts we are a quarter of the way

through our slow, but steady
harvest season.

The warm weather, Indian Summer,
is a
benefit to our season, as it affords the grapes, more time on the vine.

Allowing the grapes more time to mature, adds to the
grapes quality flavors,
that make Sonoma wines so special.

 Growing grapes comes with risks,
as Mother Nature is "always in control."

We had two days of precipitation, and as shown in the 10 day forecast, it looks as if she will be
sending a little more rain our way.

How will the rain affect our
unharvested grapes?

It is not unusual to receive “Rain” during the harvest.

There are risks, when moisture is added to
the harvest mix, but it all depends on
how much and how long.

Our recent small storms, have had no affect.

Rains may not affect us if it is followed by wind,
which would dry off the grapes before
the moisture becomes an issue.

Surprisingly enough, some may welcome a little moisture, because it keeps the dust down.

However, if given a choice... most of us would rather not see a rain event until after harvest is completed.

Varieties are affected differently by rain.

            There are the thick-skinned varieties
    like Cabernet Sauvignon,
which mature late in the season and normally see a little rain before their harvested.

Then there are the thin-skinned varieties like Chardonnay, Pinot noir and Zinfandel.

Most of the thin-skinned varieties have been harvested except for Zinfandel, which is being harvested now or in the next week or two.

Any way you look at it, rain is normal this time of year.

If it is a short event and doesn’t linger for more than a day or two, we should see little effect on our vulnerable thin-skinned varieties.

Quote of the Week:
"Some people feel the rain.
                                Others just get wet."

“Olive Sonoma”

Arbequina Olive Oil,
just so happens to be David Cook’s and my favorite.

Won a  Gold AWARD  at the

2019 World Olive Oil Competition

“Olive Sonoma” Arbequina, is a well-balanced olive oil,
with tasting sensations of Almond, Celery, Chamomile and Black Pepper

Arbequina goes well drizzled over meats to bring out their intense flavors.
It’s also great in pesto (I use it in mine) and salad dressings.

Interesting fact:  A customer recommends using Arbequina for baking.  She told me that she substitutes it for butter and used it in her Brownie Recipe!

Normally $16.00 a bottle
Now On Sale for $14.00 a bottle.

And if you purchase a bottle of Arbequina,
buy any other varietal for $14.00 a bottle
