Sonoma Has A "World-Class

Wine-Grape Growing Climate"

The climate in Sonoma, is known as
one of the best, wine-grape growing climates in the world.

According to Wikipedia, The definition of climate:
Climate is the statistics (usually, mean or variability) of weather, usually over a 30-year interval. It is measured by assessing the patterns of variation in temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, wind, precipitation, atmospheric particle count and other meteorological variables in a given region over long periods of time.

In simple terms..
Sonoma has a “World-class, wine-grape growing climate.”

What makes Sonoma’s climate
perfect for wine-grape growing?

To answer this question, we need to talk about
the growing season of a grapevine.

Our vineyards begin their growing season in early April.

During this time, we normally don’t have extreme weather like frost, high temperatures, hail, strong winds or heavy rains that can damage the young shoots.

Our flowering takes place in late May, when our weather
is arid, and we have temperature highs in the 80’s and
lows in the 60’s, which are perfect for a successful fruit-set.

June, July and August have a mild temperature swing
of 30 degrees, between our high and low temperatures.

This allows the vines to flourish during the day
and rest at night.

Sonoma, is also fortunate to have an extended arid season,             during the September and October harvests.

This is a crucial time for the maturing grapes and as well,    the extended hang-time, allows key components to mature, which add unique flavors to the wine-grape.

With this said, the main reason we have this climate,
is due to our proximity to the Pacific Ocean.

This allows for the low and high temperatures
between our perfect window and our cool nights.
With these conditions, our topography thrives in creating many microclimates.

Some warmer than others, which get the early morning fog. These microclimates allow Sonoma, to produce many
world-class, varietal wines

That’s the terroir…

                          What is terroir in wine?

Terroir. Terroir Wine Term - French Sense of Place.

Terroir is a French term, which loosely equates to the
"sense of place" that affects a given wine. The French believe that the soil, atmosphere, environment, and other indescribable aspects of a given location have a profound affect on how the wine will taste.

Quote of the week-

"A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world."
