Promoting awareness and prevention of GBS disease in babies before birth through early infancy
This month, we want to bring attention to the mission of International Women's Day 2023 being observed on March 8th. Together, we can assist women to be in a position to make informed decisions about their health which can in turn affect the health of their babies before and after birth.

All too often, we hear from women who were not given sufficient or accurate information to help protect their babies from group B strep disease. We need your help to change that!

International Women's Day

This year's theme is #EmbraceEquity focusing on the importance of understanding the difference between equity and equality. Equality is a one-size-fits-all approach while equity involves understanding specific needs so that individuals can enjoy full, healthy lives. Equity isn't just a nice-to-have, it's a must-have.

Gender and power matter in global health. Women comprise nearly half of the global population and have a significant influence on the well-being of their families, communities, and economy. Yet there's worldwide disparity in women’s health care. When it comes to GBS, we need to recognize the factors that contribute to gaps in care. It's not a one-size-fits-all approach.

For International Women's Day, let's focus on addressing the specific needs of individuals for better GBS care, such as additional support in a subsequent pregnancy after a GBS loss or finding out if access to health care is an issue. Let's fully #EmbraceEquity #IWD2023

The WAVES Study

We are working to identify gaps in care and communication surrounding GBS disease. To do this we need your help! We are asking both mothers who have had a baby infected with GBS and those who have not to share their experiences in this survey if they have conceived on or after January 1, 2003.

Please share the link gbs-intl.org/waves with your contacts and social media. Together we can wave goodbye to GBS disease!
