May 2020 Elections
Are you passionate about Haddenham? Can you put the local community at the heart of decision making? Then why not apply to be a Parish Councillor in the upcoming May 2020 local elections.

Parish Councillors work together to represent and serve the interests of the community. They are responsible for making decisions on the policies and projects the Council should take on and how best to spend Council funds.
Examples of some of the activities a Parish Councillor may be involved in include:
  • Attending full Council and Committee meetings
  • Representing the Council at meetings of local organisations
  • Provision of services - street lights, benches, dog waste bins etc
  • Planning – commenting on planning applications, supporting the neighbourhood plan
  • Finance – budget setting, governance and accountability, risk assessment
  • Fund raising and grant applications
  • Special projects – e.g. new community facilities, parking, speed monitoring.

You will need to be available on Monday evenings as Parish Council and Committee meetings are held every third Monday. The public are welcome at Council meetings, so if you're interested to see how things work, feel free to come along. The next meeting of the Council is on Monday 9th March 2020

To stand for election to a local council you must:

  • Be a UK, EU or Commonwealth citizen
  • Be 18 years old or over
  • Be registered as a local government elector for the parish; or in the past 12 months occupied land or other premises in the Parish (as owner or tenant); or work in the Parish (as your principal or only place of work); or live within three miles of the Parish boundary.
For full details on eligibility, see the Electoral Commission's Guidance for Candidates

The Notice of Election will be published on 31 March 2020. The period for nominations will then commence, and the deadline for nominations for the election will be 4pm on 8 April 2020 with the elections being held on 7 May 2020.

Tennis Court Extension Complete
We're pleased to announce that the work to extend the Tennis Courts at Woodways, to include two additional mini-courts, has been completed on time, despite the terrible weather! In addition to the mini-courts, work has been completed on improvements to the adjacent car park and a new pedestrian path along the front of the courts.
The painting of the mini-courts has been scheduled for later in the Spring when some (hopefully) drier weather comes our way. An official opening of the courts will take place on 6th June 2020. More details on the opening will be provided closer to the date.
Volunteer Litter Pick
The Parish Council is organising a village litter pick for Saturday 28th March 2020. All are welcome to come and help keep the village tidy! Litter pickers will be provided, volunteers only need to bring a pair of sturdy gloves. If you are interested in helping out, volunteers should meet at 9.30am outside the Parish Council Office, Village Hall.
New Community Gardening Scheme
Haddenham Parish Council and Aspire, our village maintenance partners, are launching a new pilot scheme to assist residents who need help with garden maintenance.
The new service is intended to support residents who are unable to manage their gardens and have nobody to help them, whether this is on a temporary or permanent basis. No charges will be made for the service but donations are welcomed from those who can afford it. Any donations will help support Aspire, a community business, to run the scheme on behalf of the Council.
The service will be initially run as a pilot project to test demand within the village. The project will last for a year and will then be assessed at the end.
If you wish to apply for the scheme, or if you would like to refer someone, please fill out the application form and return it to the Parish Council or email Aspire at works@aspirecommunityworks.com. Aspire will then be in touch to discuss your application in more detail.
Haddenham and Thame Greenway
Buckinghamshire County Council, Oxfordshire County Council and Sustrans are currently working together on the feasibility of an off-road walking and cycling route between Haddenham and Thame Parkway Station and Thame.
As part of their research, an online survey was carried out between 25th November and 9th December 2019 in order to understand how local people currently travel between these locations and the potential benefits of delivering an off-road route.
The online survey received a total of 2012 responses and the results will be considered as part of the progression of the scheme, alongside other information. The results of the survey are now available to see on Buckinghamshire County Council's website.
