Picture of Chris Young
Tribute to Chris Young

The Parish Council were deeply saddened to hear of the death of former Parish Councillor Chris Young.

A long-time resident of Haddenham, Chris was heavily involved in village life and was an enthusiastic and outspoken member of the Parish Council from 2004 – 2021. He chaired the Environment Committee for many years and took a very proactive and hands on approach to keeping an eye on and reporting back any issues with facilities around the village.

Outside of the Parish Council, Chris was a founding member and Chair of the Haddenham Beer Festivals Trust. Chris was also a very keen birdwatcher and took part in bird counts at Snakemoor Nature Reserve.

Our condolences go to Chris’s family at this sad time.

Stanbridge Road Crossing Design
Have your say on plans for Haddenham
A further round of consultation is now underway on updated design ideas for improving movement at 8 key locations around the village, as part of the Parish Council's Streetscape Project.

Following on from the public exhibition held on 13th July, we are asking residents to complete a survey and let us know what they think of the designs for the following locations:
  • Fort End
  • Double Roundabout at junction of Woodways and Churchway
  • Church End
  • Thame Road
  • Stanbridge Road
  • Train Sation
  • Dollicott
  • Village Hall
The design ideas, survey and further information on the Streetscape project can be found on the Parish Council's website.

We strongly urge all residents to respond to the survey as this is their opportunity to have their say and influence future changes to the village. As well as feedback on the design details, we are eager to hear which designs and locations residents consider a priority.

The survey closes on 5 August 2022.

Closure of Pedestrian Access to Business Park from Dollicott

The Parish Council has received a number of queries relating to the closure of access to the business park from Dollicott.
The Clerk has been in touch with the director of the asset management company of the business park and has received the following update:
‘We had an incident on the estate in June where an employee of one of the businesses on the industrial estate broke their leg after being hit by a fork lift truck on the estate road.  The HSE have been informed and are investigating. This led to a review of pedestrian safety protocols on site. We identified that pedestrians walking through the business park were not walking along a footpath, rather through a car park and along a road where loading of HGV’s by forklift trucks was occurring. In fact there is no designated safe way for a pedestrian to walk through the estate from the Dollicott entrance until the footpath starts outside unit 12 (Defaqto). We do not want members of the public being put at risk and therefore we have made the decision to temporarily close the pedestrian access at the Dollicott entrance.
We are looking at how we can provide a safe passage for pedestrians through the estate and once we have come up with a solution we will let you know. It is not our intention to permanently shut this pedestrian access but we need to make sure that it is safe for pedestrians to walk through an operational industrial estate with HGV’s and forklift trucks in operation.’
The Clerk has arranged a meeting between the director and Haddenham Parish Council representatives to discuss access and other issues, with the aim of re-opening the access as soon as possible.
Opening of Townsend Community Orchard improvements
Orchard Improvements Opened by
Lord-Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire

On Saturday 9th July, an opening ceremony for Townsend Community Orchard's accessible path was attended by Her Majesty's Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire, Countess Howe.
The opening follows works to the Community Orchard designed to improve access and participation for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility. It forms part of an approach to active aging developed in conjunction with the local residential care home, Abbeyfields.
Improvements include a new accessible gate at the Mallard Croft entrance, hard surface paths to allow access in all weather, and raised beds to form a sensory garden that can be maintained by those with reduced mobility.
Works to the path were funded by the Parish Council, whilst the raised beds were funded by JMW Vicary Pharmacy in recognition of volunteer support from the community during the Covid-19 pandemic.
It was great to see a strong turn out on a beautiful sunny day for the formal re-opening and our thanks go to everyone who helped make the project a success.
Call for Volunteers
Additional members are needed to join a group of friendly and enthusiastic volunteers and committee members to help with the development, management and maintenance of the Orchard, including planting and upkeep. The committee are also keen to hear from someone with IT skills to develop the website.

If you enjoy being outdoors, meeting new people and are willing to get stuck in then contact Diccon Proctor to find out more.

Duke of Edinburgh students are also welcome to volunteer and gain environmental and conservation experience.

Townsend Community Orchard was established in 2015 when a variety of fruit trees and soft fruit bushes were planted. The Orchard provides a wonderful space for villagers and nature alike, with residents welcome to pick some of the fruit for free. It also features a small seating area for outdoor gatherings where events such as plays and music performances take place.

Help us to Tackle Vandalism Around the Village
We're sad to report that we've seen an increase in vandalism around the village in recent months.

The following areas are being regularly targeted: Banks Park, Sheerstock Playground, Townsend Community Orchard and Woodways Playground.

Unfortunately, things have progressed beyond simply graffiti and we have seen attempts to set fire to pieces of playground equipment as well as bins outside the Scout and Guide centre.

We ask any members of public that see suspicious or criminal activity taking place to report it to the police as soon as possible via the Thames Valley Police website
