Some people say Spain doesn’t conjure up the same allure of Italy; I think it’s because it’s been less explored. Andalucia is a beautiful landscape with storybook villages and historic cities with a taste of classic experiences and flavors. Rediscovered by the youth, these gems tickle a fascination with history; dramatic and significant with flair!

2020 will be my 22nd year going to the Anna Tasca Lanza Cooking School at Case Vecchie, on the wine estate of Regaleali of the noble Tasca d'Almerita family. Sicily is a place that I long to return to. She is the Pearl of the Mediterranean: no other island captures her charm in the same way. She’s exotic. Fertile. Rich in Arabic and Greek influence and the sustaining life of the olive, citrus and the vine that has given her the identity of a goddess. She is independent, strong and unforgiving. She has suffered hardships and come out looking even more beautiful.

Fabrizia Lanza, has taken the foundation of the school and created Cook the Farm, a three-month immersion into the depth of sustainable food. We are there to experience that program's mini version for three days. I have always appreciated the trip to Fillipo’s farm to witness the making of pecorino and see the life of a shepherd. I love walking the dirt roads of Regaleali passing fields of cattaratto, insolia, and other native grapes, then tasting the award-winning wines with our meals of local vegetables, homemade tomato sauces, pastas and semolina breads.

As if this is not enough, Tasca d'Almerita has just been awarded the "2019 European Winery of the Year" by Wine Enthusiast for their commitment to quality and sustainability. Come and enjoy a wine tasting overlooking a thousand acres of vines in the heartland of Sicily and you will understand our resonance with this esteemed estate. 

We’ll walk the streets of Palermo with my friend, chef and local transplant Linda Sarris, known as "The Cheeky Chef". Her passion took her into the belly of the Ballarò market, where she lives and breathes fresh artichokes and giant purple cauliflowers. We’ll walk the markets like a local and taste true Palermitano food. Then Linda and I will take you on a road trip to Vittoria to see Ariana Occhipinti, the darling wine producer of Frappato. We’ll visit friends in Modica and make chocolate like the old days. The Baroque will call us to Noto for a taste of Corado Azzenza’s artisan gelato. Ortygia’s peninsula, with a look to the sea, will delight the last few nights with epic markets and cafes.
