"You see, bookshops are dreams built of wood and paper.  They are time travel and escape and knowledge and power.  They are, simply put, the best of places."
~ Jen Campbell Author

We couldn't agree more, and look forward to sharing this dream with all of you!  Speaking of wood, check out the progress on the custom bookcases below.

Welcome!

We are pleased to welcome Caroline Ervin to our team this summer!  She is a Morganton native, a student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and has graciously volunteered her time this summer to help us launch the bookstore.  Caroline is a lifelong bibliophile and aspiring novelist working towards an English degree and a Creative Writing Minor.  She has written and published a nonfiction account of the work and adventures of the First Presbyterian Youth Group in Belize, which can be read in the online magazine Hackwriters at http://www.hackwriters.com/BelizeCE.htm. She hopes to be able to share her love of reading and literature with the visitors of Adventure Bound Books, and is looking forward to an excellent summer at home helping to build an exciting new business.  Stop by to welcome her and hear her book recommendations!

We are also looking forward to having Dina Martin join our team for a very special weekend opportunity at the bookstore.  Dina will be leading our Bilingual Storytime every other Saturday afternoon.  A Morganton native, she is currently studying Spanish Literature at UNC Greensboro and aspires to teach Spanish.  She is full of great ideas and we're thrilled to have her as part of the team!

Used Books Program to Raise Money for Local Non-Profits

You asked for it, so we're finding a way to make it happen!  Adventure Bound Books will offer a selective used book program with the purpose of raising money to benefit local non-profits.  For those of you who visited the storefront during our Meet & Greet/Idea Share, you know that it is a cozy space, which means we will not be able to hold a large used book inventory.  We'll receive donations of a variety of used books, in-person only, and proceeds will benefit a new non-profit each quarter.  More details are available on our website.

Art Book Club

We're collaborating with Sketch Artspace for a special art project!  Take a story off the pages of its book and bring it to life on canvas under the instruction of experienced art educator Staci Nofziger.  We'll read about the adventures of a perfect square as it experiences something new each day and transforms into a new beautiful creation.  Young artists will then have the opportunity to create their own unique masterpieces, be it a square, a park, a fountain, a bridge, or capture another spectacular adventure altogether.  The cost is $25 per child ($20 for each sibling for families) and includes a canvas painting to take home.  Participants will have the option to purchase their very own copy of Perfect Square.  Join us May 10th from 6-7:30 p.m.; registration is available here.

Social Media Scavenger Hunt

There's a hunt afoot!  A scavenger hunt, that is.  We're hosting this fun activity on Instagram during the month of May to help spread the word as we approach our June opening. Join us for some online fun; rules and details are posted below.

Rules:
1. Follow @adventureboundbooks on IG.
2. Post (on Instagram) a picture of 20 of the items on the list during the month of May.
3. Each post should contain the description of the item on the Scavenger Hunt list.
4. Tag @adventureboundbooks in your post.
5. Include #ABBScavengerHunt in your post (this helps us find everyone’s posts to tally and choose a winner).

Winner: We will randomly choose a winner from those followers who post 20 items in the month of May according to the rules.

The contest runs from May 1-May 31, 2018 and the prize includes a gift certificate to the bookstore and an Adventure Bound Books goodies pack. Happy hunting and happier reading!

Last Chance!

May 15th is the last day to score some unique items featuring the bookstore logo and an original poem penned by bookstore owner, Angela Shores.  The Go Fund Me Campaign will close May 15th so that we can order everyone's rewards to have them as promised.  Our bookmarks, mugs, and tote bags will feature both the logo and poem (future items sold in store will only feature our logo), there are chances to get Angela's Top 10 Books list and a copy of one of the books from the list, and Swashbucklers and Adventurers earn an invitation to the Pre-Opening Party.  Supporters at the Adventurer level also receive all the goodies and an engraved shelf plate to be permanently affixed to a book shelf in honor or memory of whomever you choose.  Get all the details at www.gofundme.com/adventureboundbooks.
