Worship Matters
We will gather this Sunday, November 3 to worship together with our minister, Drew Frantz, who will present “Day of the Dead.” Please join us!
Many religious and cultural traditions celebrate and honor the dead around November 2nd —for example, Dia de Muertos in Mexico and All Souls Day in some Christian denominations. Our commemoration of this holiday will specifically honor two members of our congregation, Prad Mathur and Vicki Chessin, who have recently passed.

First Friday Potluck - November 1
Join us for our First Friday communal nosh! Carolyn Hancock and Deb Allore are hosting, with a theme of Fall Comfort Food. The potluck begins at 6:30 p.m. - helping hands are welcome at 6:15 p.m. to assist with set-up preparations. We will also be celebrating the November birthdays of Jim Dealing, Jen Prout, Savannah Fleer, Ricky Courlander, Justin Fleer, Irv Irvin, Tom Moffit, and Sara Prussing.
Community Justice Party - November 2
You are all invited to our third bi-annual Community Justice Party on Saturday, November 2, from 7-9 pm. There will be a program in the sanctuary of music, skits, poetry, and activities highlighting several social justice issues, and then we will meet in the fellowship hall for light refreshments and a rousing cake and pie walk (walk tickets are 25¢ each, so bring lots of quarters)! The suggested donation for adults is $5 (although more will gratefully be accepted), and children are free (with child care provided for in the nursery). This was a highlight event two years ago, so be sure to have it on your calendar!
Infant Pantry Collection - November 3
Donations for the Infant Pantry are collected on the first Sunday of each month. Most needed items are things for baby care - diapers and pull-ups in sizes 4, 5 or 6, creams, shampoos, lotions, and baby food in jars. To donate money, make the check out to CCN (Community Compassionate Network) with memo “Infant Pantry.” Questions? Contact Tom Moffit (989-772-1602; moffi1tc@cmich.edu).
OWL Parent Orientation - November 17
In last week's Thursday eNews, November 3 and November 17 were listed as the Our Whole Lives (OWL) Parent Orientation dates. The OWL Parent Orientation will take place ONLY on Sunday, November 17 from 2-5:30 p.m. in the sanctuary.
OWL is a secular sex education curriculum that covers relationships, gender identity, sexual orientation, sexual health, and cultural influences on sexuality. This program is designed for children in 7-10 grade and is free and open to the public. Our dates for the OWL lessons will be Sundays January 5, 12, 19, and 26; February 2, 9, 16, and 23; March 1 and 22; April 19 and 26 (every Sunday in January through April, except for a few in March and two in April). All sessions will be in the sanctuary from 1-4 p.m. Parents who are interested in registering their children should contact Kendra Peffers at

CUUPs Celebrates Samhain - November 3
Samhain (pronounced SAH-win) is a holiday known by another name - Halloween. The ancients believed this was the time of year when the veil between the living and passed was the thinnest. It is a time to remember those who have passed before us and listen to their stories which still live on inside us. It is also the Pagan “new year” with death and birth being two sides of the same coin. We invite those of you who are interested in participating in this ritual to bring an item of food or drink to share at the potluck that follows the ceremony. We will gather at 6:30 p.m. and begin our ceremony promptly at 7 p.m.
UUFCM Book Club - November 13
Our November read is Geraldine Brooks’ Year of Wonders. “It’s 1666 and an isolated island quarantines itself in an attempt to stop the spread of the bubonic plague. This historical novel shows how good people turn on each other as death takes its toll. Ignorance and hatred soon become as deadly as the disease itself.” We meet 2nd Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m. in the social hall of the UU Center, September through June. Bring a lunch and enjoy the discussion!

Transgender Day of Remembrance - November 20
On Wednesday, November 20 at 7:30 p.m., UUFCM will celebrate Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day to commemorate victims of anti-transgender violence and to rededicate ourselves to the work of peace and justice for all people. We will name and remember the victims of anti-transgender violence this year in a service which will include music and prayer. People of any faith or no faith are welcome.

UU Women's Group Rescheduled - November 21
Our new first meeting will be on November 21, 2019 at 6:30 pm. We will meet in the sanctuary at the UUFCM. We had to postpone the meeting because so many women had a schedule conflict. We are coming together to celebrate and learn about womanhood, past, present, and future. We will be exploring women's history and how it continues to affect us today. We will create a safe place to discuss and process issues around being a woman, while we get to know one another better. Last, we will also find the time to have fun. At the first meeting we will plan more specific goals and objectives together. Jen Prout, Joyce Hendricks and Carolyn Hancock will facilitate this group together. RE Halloween Party
The RE Halloween Party was a hit with pumpkin painting, Halloween-themed treats, cookie decorating, and Halloween crafts! These kids were ready for Halloween on Sunday, so we hope they have a wonderful time trick-or-treating today.

Conversations That Matter: Abortion and Reproductive Health
November 13, 5-7 pm in the Powers Hall Ballroom
The Office of Diversity Education at CMU is offering a new series called Conversations That Matter, a discussion among students, faculty, staff, administration, and community members. Dinner is provided so it is important to RSVP.
