Worship Matters

We will gather this Sunday, November 17 to worship together with Laura McBride, who will present “Recalculating.” Please join us!

On the inevitable disruption of our expectations… and the religious call to continually recalibrate:

“We crave order and control and predictable patterns in this life. When we can’t find them (because they mostly do not exist), we get anxious and we make them up, imposing our will or our opinion or our expectations of ourselves, of everybody else, all over the place, and when the universe rears up on its hind legs and says, “Well, actually no. You’re not the boss of the world, and this is not how it’s gonna go,” we are mightily disrupted… How we weather the disruptions; how we welcome them sometimes, or at least acknowledge them, honor them; how we grieve completely when loss or affliction assails us – how we grieve completely, and keep on moving forward anyway, however incompletely; how we let go of one idea, or one assumption, one dream, and re-orient our minds, our spirits, our plans around new revelations of reality – well, that is the religious life…”

If you happen to miss being in worship, the texts to previous sermon messages (and some of the readings as well) can be found in our website sermon archive.

Fellowship Life Meeting - This Sunday

On the third Sunday of every month – immediately following our worship service – the UUFCM Board holds a brief Fellowship Life meeting to update the congregation on current happenings, plans and/or concerns within the congregation. The intention is for the meetings to be kept brief; the hope is for extended conversation to take place following the meeting during the coffee hour time. This month the agenda will include a review of the Tornado Drill policy, announcements for the Harvest Feast and Holiday Tea, and an announcement regarding the Minister’s contract. Please plan to attend.

Transgender Day of Remembrance - November 20

On Wednesday, November 20 at 7:30 p.m., UUFCM will celebrate Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day to commemorate victims of anti-transgender violence and to rededicate ourselves to the work of peace and justice for all people. We will name and remember the victims of anti-transgender violence this year in a service which will include music and prayer. People of any faith or no faith are welcome. Want to help spread the word? Just click on the image above to download the flyer.

Harvest Feast!

The Harvest Feast, our annual celebration of the Thanksgiving holiday for all our members and friends, will follow the service on Sunday, November 24. There will be a short program presented during the feast, and the youth will be explaining and accepting donations to the UUSC Guest at Your Table Program. This program supports human rights and social justice in the United States and around the world. Please consider donating to this very effective program – cash, check or credit card. Sign-up sheets to contribute to the dinner are in the fellowship hall. Please sign up to bring what you can, and be sure to put this family-friendly event on your calendar!

UU Women's Group - November 21

Our new first meeting will be on November 21, 2019 at 6:30 pm. We will meet in the sanctuary at the UUFCM. We are coming together to celebrate and learn about womanhood, past, present, and future; to explore women's history and how it continues to affect us today; to create a safe place to discuss and process issues around being a woman, while we get to know one another better; and we will also find the time to have fun. At the first meeting we will plan more specific goals and objectives together. Jen Prout, Joyce Henricks and Carolyn Hancock will facilitate this group. Please text Carolyn at 517-881-6006 if you are interested in attending!

RE Harvest Feast Overnight - November 23

From 5:30-9:00 p.m., children of all ages are invited to enjoy an evening of games, crafts, and a pizza dinner! We will also be making homemade butter and, as per tradition, Stone Soup for the Harvest Feast on Sunday. Children in 3rd grade and up also have the option of spending the night in the sanctuary with a movie before bed and yoga and breakfast in the morning! If you have any children who would like to attend the evening events and/or stay overnight, please email Kendra at re.uufcm@gmail.com. Children are welcome to bring their friends!
