Lights for Liberty Candlelight Vigil –
A Vigil to End Human Detention Camps

Friday, July 12, at 7:30 p.m.
at the UU Fellowship of Central Michigan

319 S. University Avenue, corner of University
and Wisconsin. Co-sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Central Michigan, St. John’s Episcopal in Mt. Pleasant, and the Mount Pleasant Area Diversity Group.
We will join together with thousands of Americans to protest against the inhumane actions of our government toward the refugees at the southern border and in solidarity with the immigrants who have chosen to come here, whether out of economic necessity or from fear for their lives in their homeland.

For more information about Lights for Liberty, please visit their website.

Worship Matters

Our worship services in July and August will be different this summer, more interactive and intimate, giving us a chance to get to know one another better. After the lighting of the chalice and honoring our joys and concerns, each week, in small random groups, we will engage in discussion of a topic announced in advance – here in the e-News, in the order of service and on our website. After the discussion time, the services will close with a song and a closing benediction.

Our discussion topic for this coming Sunday, July 14, will be “What good “stuff” did you get from your growing up in a faith community (or without one)? What bad “stuff?” Come join with us as we get to know one another better as we worship together in this new format.

Upcoming Services - Summer Worship Series

July 21: What brings you joy?
July 28: Your experience with life obstacles?
August 4: Your most important social justice issue?
August 11: What does it mean to live a good life?
August 18: What do you think happens when you die?
August 25: What would you like your epitaph to be?

Community Mural Painting!

On the last Sunday of this month (July 28th), the RE team invites all children and congregation members to join us in the fellowship hall after service to complete a community mural. This mural will be an enlarged outline of one of Burnie (Auburna) Bonnell's art pieces with the colors and patterns filled in by the rest of us. Some of Burnie's other paintings are hanging in the green room, and we hope to add another that is inspired by her art and completed by her UUFCM family. You don't have to be a master artist to contribute to this project, and we want to get as many people involved as possible! If you have any questions, feel free to contact Kendra Peffers at re.uufcm@gmail.com.

A Request for Specialty Sunday Helpers!

Thanks to our amazing volunteers, all of our Specialty Sundays have at least one leader to entertain our youth with a fun activity! July 21st and August 4th are still looking for one more willing congregant to volunteer and assist with the activity and supervision.

These Sundays can be filled with stories, baking, finger-painting, playing instruments, singing, yoga, chalking outside, playing with bubbles, a combination of different activities, and anything else the children might enjoy! Please consider signing up to volunteer if you want to help with a fun activity and get to know the smaller members of our congregation in the process. If you are interested in volunteering on one of these Specialty Sundays, please sign-up in the social hall or email Kendra at re.uufcm@gmail.com

Treats for Social Hour Desired (Needed)

Even though our summer services will provide a different format, some things won’t change. Coffee hour with munchies is written in stone. Please consider bringing something (cookies, crackers, fruit, cheese, gluten free treat, etc. No nuts please) for one of the upcoming Sundays in July and August.
There is a sign-up sheet in the fellowship hall if you want to let us know in advance, but it is not necessary - if you want to share your delicious goodies, don't hesitate to bring them!

Fellowship Life Meeting - July 21

On the third Sunday of every month – immediately following our worship service – the UUFCM Board holds a brief Fellowship Life meeting to update the congregation on current happenings, plans and/or concerns within the congregation. The intention is for the meetings to be kept brief; the hope is for extended conversation to take place following the meeting during the coffee hour time.

Calendar Updates

Game Night and Sewing Circle are cancelled for July 15. See you in August!
UUFCM Book Club is on haitus until September.
