eNews for Thursday, July 25

We Have a Minister!

On Friday, July 19, Carol Rard, UUFCM president, and Drew Frantz, signed a ministerial contract for the 2019-2020 year, starting September 1 and ending June 30, 2020. Drew is sending an introduction letter and short video which will be mailed directly to your e-mail address, hopefully within the next week.  As plans get firmed up, we will let you know about a welcoming event on September 1 and an opportunity for small-group gatherings to get to know Drew better.

Your Transition Team

Worship Matters

Our worship services in July and August are different this summer, more interactive and intimate, giving us a chance to get to know one another better. After the lighting of the chalice and honoring our joys and concerns, each week, in small random groups, we engage in discussion of a topic announced in advance – here in the e-News, in the order of service and on our website. After the discussion time, the services close with a song and a closing benediction.

Our discussion topic for this coming Sunday, July 28, will be “Name one personal life obstacle – loss, challenge, disappointment, regret – you have experienced. How has it changed you? How have you dealt with it or how are you dealing with it?” Come join with us as we get to know one another better as we worship together in this summer format.

Upcoming Services - Summer Worship Series

August 4: Your most important social justice issue?
August 11: What does it mean to live a good life?
August 18: What do you think happens when you die?
August 25: What would you like your epitaph to be?

Community Mural Painting -
Sunday, July 28

On the last Sunday of this month, the RE team invites all children and congregation members to join us in the fellowship hall after service to complete a community mural. This mural will be an enlarged outline of one of Burnie (Auburna) Bonnell's art pieces with the colors and patterns filled in by the rest of us. Some of Burnie's other paintings are hanging in the green room, and we hope to add another that is inspired by her art and completed by her UUFCM family. You don't have to be a master artist to contribute to this project, and we want to get as many people involved as possible! If you have any questions, feel free to contact Kendra Peffers at

Directory Updates

If you have changed your phone, postal address or email account, please let us know by Thursday, August 1! We'll be printing our August addendum to our Directory soon. Please send your information to our Administrative Assistant, Kirsten Keeton, or tell Gisela Moffit. Thank you!

First Friday Potluck Plea

Who is hosting the August potluck? What’s the theme?
We don’t know, but perhaps you would like to host and choose! If so, please contact Jen Prout (989-400-3130) or George Lentz (248-346-4039). If you enjoy the potlucks, please consider hosting – it is fun and easy!

Infant Pantry Collection - August 4

Donations for the Infant Pantry are collected on the first Sunday of each month. Most needed items are things for baby care - diapers and pull-ups in sizes 4, 5 or 6, creams, shampoos, lotions, and baby food in jars. To donate money, make the check out to CCN (Community Compassionate Network) with memo “Infant Pantry.” Contact Tom Moffit (989-772-1602; with questions.

Adult RE Book Discussion - August 4-25

Jim Dealing will facilitate four discussions, on Sundays, Aug. 4-25, at noon, of Introducing the Bible: for Skeptics, Seekers and Religious Liberals by John Beuhrens. Contact Jim (989.772.0269; if interested, and to get one of the five copies he has received from Amazon (it is out of stock at Beacon Books).

First Harvest!

We picked our first harvest from the UUFCM youth garden to deliver to the Soup Kitchen this week! Kale, green beans, big cucumbers, and three cherry tomatoes!

Treats for Social Hour Desired (Needed)

Even though our summer services will provide a different format, some things won’t change. Coffee hour with munchies is written in stone. Please consider bringing something (cookies, crackers, fruit, cheese, gluten free treat, etc. No nuts please) for one of the upcoming Sundays in July and August.
There is a sign-up sheet in the fellowship hall if you want to let us know in advance, but it is not necessary - if you want to share your delicious goodies, don't hesitate to bring them!

Lay Pastoral Care

During our transition, we will offer Lay Pastoral Care to anyone who is going through a difficult time. Gisela Moffit heads the Arms Around team, which provides transportation to doctor appointments, cards/emails/phone calls, preparing and delivering food for those recuperating. Carolyn Hancock will provide lay pastoral care for those who are hurting and need to talk to a caring person one-on-one. Contact Carolyn at 517-881-6006 for an appointment.
