Worship Matters
We will gather this Sunday, June 23 to worship together with Laura McBride, who will present “Finding Gratitude.” We hope you will join us.
Finding Gratitude is one person’s journey to recognizing and cherishing the sweet moments of each day as a way to developing practices that change her attitude and outlook during difficult times and challenging phases in her travel through life and living. Join Laura McBride as she shares more about her heartaches that led to gratitude practices and a more content view of her life.
If you happen to miss being in worship, the texts to previous sermon messages (and some of the readings as well) can be found in our website sermon archive.
Upcoming Services
June 30: Perspectives on the Bible: For Skeptics, Seekers and Religious Liberals, by Jim Dealing
Thank You for Garage Sale!
We had a really successful garage sale, even with one complete day of rain! We made $1400.37, which will go into our Building Fund for special projects. Many people made our success possible, and we thank you all – setting up, sorting, pricing, selling and cleaning up! Laura McBride, Candi Tomlinson, Andrea Devenney, Jen Prout, Sandy Wickstrom, Pam Gilbert, Mary Alsager, Liz Dealing, Brigitte Bechtold, Jennifer Budde, Deb Allore, Gisela Moffit, Victoria Sladek, Leslie Hildebrandt, Ricky Courlander, Cynthia Damer, Carol Rard, Carolyn Hancock, Jennifer Davis, Daniel Davis, Carla Jensen, Chris Bailey, Sue Martin, Guy Newland and Jim Dealing.
Summer Worship Services
Our worship services in July and August will be different this summer, more interactive and intimate, giving us a chance to get to know one another better. After the lighting of the chalice and honoring our joys and concerns, each week, in small random groups, we will engage in discussion of a topic announced in advance – the week before and in the e-News. After the discussion time, the services will close with a song and a closing benediction. We encourage you to join us in this new worship format this summer!
Spring Clean-Up - This Saturday, June 22 from 9-12
It’s time for our spring clean-up this year. Your building team (Deb Allore, Norma Bailey, James Hatcher and Kris Los) has planned a half-day inside-the-building cleaning for Saturday, June 22, from 9 am to noon. We’ll have all the cleaning supplies ready for you. All you need to do is show up, whether you can come for 30 minutes or the whole three hours. Remember – many hands make the work light!
Father Wayne Nicholson’s Funeral
The funeral for Father Wayne Nicholson, recently retired priest at St. John’s Episcopal Church, will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, June 22, at 1:00 pm.
A Request for Specialty Sunday Leaders and Helpers!
Thanks to our amazing volunteers, all of our Specialty Sundays have at least one leader to entertain our youth with a fun activity! July 7th, July 21st, and August 4th are still looking for one more willing congregant to volunteer and assist with the activity and supervision.
These Sundays can be filled with stories, baking, finger-painting, playing instruments, singing, yoga, chalking outside, playing with bubbles, a combination of different activities, and anything else the children might enjoy! Please consider signing up to volunteer if you want to help with a fun activity and get to know the smaller members of our congregation in the process. If you are interested in volunteering on one of these Specialty Sundays, please sign-up in the social hall or email Kendra at re.uufcm@gmail.com.
CUUPs Celebrates Litha - June 23
Solstice, or Litha means a stopping or standing still of the sun. It is the longest day of the year and the time when the sun is at its maximum elevation. This is also a time to celebrate growth and life for those who see balance in the world and are deeply aware of the ongoing shifting of the seasons. It is also time to acknowledge that the sun will now begin to decline once more towards winter. We invite those of you who are interested in participating in this ritual to bring an item of food or drink to share at the potluck that follows the ceremony. We will gather at 6:30 pm and begin our ceremony promptly at 7:00 pm.
Welcome to UU Orientation - June 30
This orientation is geared to newcomers, visitors, and those seeking to learn more about Unitarian Universalism and this UU fellowship. It is offered every month on the last Sunday at 12:00 p.m. Sessions run approximately ninety minutes. For more info or to register for Welcome to UU, contact: Laura McBride (989.772.5512; Lmcbride010@gmail.com) or Gisela Moffit (989.772.1602; gbmoffit@gmail.com)
Cash Donation Envelopes
In an effort to reduce waste and cost (including recyclable paper) we came up with a bright idea! Instead of using the Cash Donation envelopes only once, we will add more labels on the envelope so it can be reused. For this to work, we ask you not to seal the envelope, but put the flap inside. It’ll make our treasurer happy because it is easier to open and new envelopes don’t need to be reordered so often. And we are all glad to go easy on the environment.
Lay Pastoral Care
During our transition, we will offer Lay Pastoral Care to anyone who is going through a difficult time. Gisela Moffit heads the Arms Around team, which provides transportation to doctor appointments, cards/emails/phone calls, preparing and delivering food for those recuperating. Carolyn Hancock will provide lay pastoral care for those who are hurting and need to talk to a caring person one-on-one. Contact Carolyn at 517-881-6006 for an appointment.
