Worship Matters
In worship this Sunday, January 13, we will continue our dance with the question of what it means to be a people of possibility with a message from our minister titled “The Art of Possibility” – a title shamelessly stolen from the book by the same name. We hope you will join us!
We keep looking so hard in life for the “specific message,” and yet we are blinded to the fact that the message we really need is all around us, and within us all the time. We just have to stop demanding that it be on our terms or conditions, and instead open ourselves to the possibility that what we need may be in front of us all the time.
~ Rosamund Stone Zander and Benjamin Zander
You can read more about our monthly theme as well as explore some supplemental resources here. And if you happen to miss being in worship on any given Sunday, the texts to previous sermon messages (and some of the readings as well) can be found in our website sermon archive.
Upcoming Services
January Theme: What Does It Mean to Be a People of Possibility?

January 27: “Precious Stones on the Road”
After Worship Discussion – This Sunday, January 13 @ 12:00 pm
“The Ministry of Presence – A Review of Lay Pastoral Caregiving”
Following our worship service this coming Sunday – once folks have made a trip to the social hall for coffee & treats – all those interested are invited to gather back in the sanctuary for a presentation and group discussion led by our minister on the issue of lay pastoral caregiving. Many of us have questions and concerns about how we will manage this area of ministry during the transition period once Dawn has left her position here. So please come prepared with a listening heart and mind as well as any questions you may have as we explore together this essential aspect of congregational life.
Are There Changes in Your Life We Need to Know About?
We are in the process of updating the Directory - please help us by checking the online directory to see if your entry is still correct. The directory is password protected - it is the same as last year, but instead of 18, it is 19 at the end. Did you have a new postal or email address, a new phone number, a new spouse or child? If so, contact Gisela Moffit ASAP. Thanks!
Two More Photo Ops
The next two Sundays, January 13 and 20, will be the last opportunities to get your photo taken after church for the new directory. If you do not want to have your picture taken, just let us know. If you want to submit one of your own, please email it directly to our Administrative Assistant. Deadline for submissions are January 30.
Path to Membership Workshop - January 19
This workshop is designed for those who feel ready (or even somewhat ready) to make the membership commitment to UUFCM. In this interactive session we explore the deeper meanings and expectations of membership and shared ministry; it is a three-hour session (depending on the size of the group – may be a shorter timeframe if a small group). Refreshments and childcare will be provided. Please let us know one week prior to the class if you need childcare. For more info or to register for the workshop contact:
Laura McBride (989.772.5512; Lmcbride010@gmail.com), or

RE Service Project
On Sunday, January 20th at 12:00 pm at the church, the RE Team has organized a service project benefiting two residents in need at Green Acres Assisted Living (1805 E Remus Rd, Mt. Pleasant). We would like to invite all the children to help us make fleece tie-blankets to help some elderlies stay cozy warm this winter. For little ones who haven't quite mastered the skill of tying knots, we would certainly appreciate their help with decorating cards to give to the residents! After we finish our blankets and cards, kiddos and their guardians will have the opportunity to go to the facility around 1:00 pm to distribute blankets and cards to the residents. Please email Kendra at re.uufcm@gmail.com if you are interested in helping distribute and would need a ride.
Important Retreat on Saturday, January 26
On Saturday, January 26, we will have our annual all-congregation retreat.
While always a valuable gathering, this retreat will be extremely important as we will be making decisions about our direction forward in light of Dawn’s departure on January 31. A hot breakfast will be served at 8:30, and the retreat will occur from 9-12. All members and friends are encouraged to attend.
MidAmerica Regional Assembly - Save the Date
The MidAmerica Regional Assembly will be held in St. Louis, Missouri, April 5-7, 2019. The keynote address will be presented by UUA President, Susan Frederick-Gray, and there will be multiple workshops. If you are interested in attending (with support from the Fellowship), contact Norma Bailey at 989-560-3952 or at baile1nj@cmich.edu).
