Christmas Prep Special

Christmas is Coming

Fundraising and Decoration Making for Christmas 2019 is Underway

We are pushing on and our plans for Christmas are coming together. We are  fundraising for more coloured Christmas lights and general decorations. Buxton will be brighter and better than ever this year but we can only do it with your help!

Our crowdfunding campaign is now live to give a Buxton a lighter and brighter Christmas. Last year’s generous donations by residents and businesses replaced lights on four of the six town trees. The difference between old and new lights was remarkable and gave so much pleasure that we want to do even more this year.

You can find the campaign by going to and then searching for: 'Buxton Magic' or you can click the button below. Donations Start at £5.

We are reusing the white lights to create a little magic on The Slopes and other locations around town. All will be topped off by the Beautiful Buxton Crown if, with your support, we achieve our goal of £3250 from crowdfunding.

Please contact Steve if you can help or have any special expertise that will help us on our way.

Consultation Ends 17th November

Have you told us what you think yet?

The idea is to develop a network of safe routes for walkers, cyclists and in some cases horseriders, with as much of the routes as possible traffic free. We need your views to make the plan even better.

We want routes that link residential areas with schools, main places of work ie business parks and also the town centre and shops. We also want safe and pleasant routes for people to leave town and link in with existing cycle trails and the local footpath network. All with the aim of making it easier, safer and a more pleasant experience for people to walk or ride instead of using cars.

Of course, the network won’t happen overnight but there are grants available and once we’ve agreed the routes and worked out the cost of getting each one up to the required standard we’ll be applying for funding.

The suggestions on the map are just that, they’ve been drawn up by people who live in Buxton and know the place well, but that doesn’t mean they are the best possible routes and if you have suggestions or improvements we’d love to hear from you.

The consultation closes on 17th November 2019 so please ensure your thoughts, feedback and suggestions have been sent to us by then.

Can you help?

We need you!

Do you have any old Christmas themed jumpers and/or pairs of old walking boots or wellingtons? We're recycling for Christmas! If you can help, please contact Debbie on or call 07733112859.

Connex Community Angels

Crochet and Knitting Opportunity

Can you help crochet and knit Christmas angels? The Angels will be placed around Buxton on each Sunday of advent for people to collect and take home or to pass on to someone who may like one. The Angels will each have a small label and on this there will be a Christmas wish from the Church and a bit about Connex's Befriending service.

Their aim is to make 1000 angels. They are very easy to make and they are great for using up odd bits of wool. Clicking on the links below will take you to the knitting and crochet patterns.

Please also put a loop on the top of the angel so that they can be easily hung up, the pattern doesn’t state this, so please don't forget!

A handy tip that was learnt from last year is that cotton wool balls were just the right size for an angels head, however, cotton wool doesn’t do so well in the rain! So please use toy stuffing, this is available at Connex or the Methodist Church on the Market if anyone would like some to use.
That's all for now. As ever there's more information about what is going on, on the website and on our Facebook page, and specifically for upcoming events, don't forget the diary.

If you have a Town Team event that you want to add to the diary, please email me at

If you would like to give feedback on your monthly newsletter we'd love to hear from you, just use the e-mail address above; all feedback is appreciated!

Hope to see you soon,
