Buxton Town Team needs YOU!

Volunteers wanted for leading walks in Buxton - see below for more details!
Christmas social:

Our joint Social Celebration on Tues 14th December has been postponed until Spring 2022.

Due to Covid variant increases, the directors of Buxton Town Team and Transition Buxton have decided to defer the get together. Hopefully we can celebrate in March or April.

Please pass this message on to others - no party at the Green Man Gallery next week!

Keep well,, stay healthy and have  a Happy Christmas

from all the Town Team Directors
Buxton in Blooming Winter

The wonderful decorations created by our team of `baublers` are going up around town along with new snowmen created by pupils at Buxton Community School.

Two weather postponements delayed all the team putting up the decorations but there were lots up in time for the Christmas Light Switch On and the Lantern Parade organised by Buxton Sparkles.

The decorations are due to come down on Sunday 2nd January, weather permitting.
Fairfield Road planters

The Fairfield Road planters now have their Winter bedding plants in place ready to burst forth when the weather eases.

Volunteer group

A group of Volunteers from Bright Opportunities, facilitated by Steve Bradshaw, have now met twice in Ashwood Park helping to clear overgrowing weeds and nettles and make the paths clearer.

We hope to continue every two weeks or so, weather permitting.
Slopes Team update
The Slopes team have been busy and ensured the area around the War Memorial was immaculate in time for Remembrance Sunday which saw a large crowd gather for the service.

The team meets on alternate Thursday and Saturday mornings at 10am at the Slopes car park at the Town Hall.

This month they are meeting on Sat 11th and Thursday 16th. They will them be taking a break for Christmas and will return in January.

If you want to lend a hand contact    slopes@buxtontownteam.org  or action@buxtontownteam.org for more details
Dickensian Market

Thanks to everyone who helped on the Dickensian Market held on Saturday despite the heavy snow fall.

The event was unsurprisingly quieter than previous years, but we did sign up a few new members.

If you know anyone who is interested in getting involved please get them to have a look at the website https://www.buxtontownteam.org/joinus
Access, Parking, Traffic and Transport update
The final stages of the Buxton Sustainable Travel Plan are nearing completion. The responses have been very positive, and we look forward out rolling out a range of actions in the New Year.
The stars are out on High Peak Christmas Shopping Buses. Look out for the 185 and 186 with Buxton Stars on the side window
This ties in with school children being encouraged, through the national ModeShift STARS campaign to count the Town Team tinsel stars as they walk, cycle or bus to school – rather than going by car.
We have just held a very useful meeting of the Buxton Workplace Travel Forum, with a good attendance of Buxton businesses via Teams. We host this jointly with Derbyshire CC. Lots of interest and willingness to work together.
We are hoping to hold a face-to-face meeting of the whole APTT group on Dec 10th but will, of course, be guided by the science and may need to resort to Zoom. There is much to report and discuss and we expect a good attendance.

E-cargo bike deliveries:
Currently operating with Day Zero who now supply veg boxes, are making steady progress but would be pleased to be doing more deliveries in Buxton. If you know of anyone who could use a very sustainable delivery system, please let us know!

Buxton Car Club:
Based at Buxton Station, the Car Club has seen a steady take up of both the car and van and would like to see more Buxtonians using the Club.
We have been offered a very generous rate for residents of £10 for first year’s membership (normally £60) from Enterprise Car Club. To take up the offer go to their website and use the code: BUXTON10

Walking Group Leaders
Walking Group Leaders are being sought to lead short walks in Buxton (30mins-60mins) probably in Pavilion Gardens with that being a base for loos and also a coffee after the walk.
If you would like to be part of a team to do that, please contact Ross Jillings, Lead Walking Officer HPBC: Tel: 07581017332 Email: ross.jillings@highpeak.gov.uk

If you are interested in working on the APTT project and the travel plan, please contact Tina at travel@buxtontownteam.org

Wishing all BTT members a

Merry Christmas

and a
