Buxton Visitor Survey

Now out! We need your help!

The Buxton Travel Plan Steering Group, set up after the Town Teams ‘Buxton on the Move’ Conference, has been gathering travel data from all stakeholders in and around Buxton: schools, businesses, residents and train travellers. Now comes the turn of visitors to Buxton.

Paper questionnaires are available form number of locations including Potters and the Tourist Information Centre in The Pump Room

There are a number of attractive prizes that will entice visitors to fill in the form and hopefully return to Buxton.

The Visitor’s Survey has now gone live and there are copies at various key points around the town as well as the online version. If your job involves meeting visitors or you simply bump into them around the town, why not pick up a few questionnaires to give out to them?

An on-line version of the questionnaire is also available at:
bit.ly/buxton-visitor

Copies of the form will be distributed to the Tourist Centre, hotels and guest houses but volunteers are always welcome to give out the questionnaires around the town.

We will also need help processing the paper entries, if this is something that you can help with, please get in touch.

Ashwood Park

Many of you will have seen the pictures of flooding in Ashwood Park. The park is part of the flood-plain and flooding here is much less damaging than it has been for the houses and businesses in the Lightwood Road area. The main damage in Ashwood Park was to the Bowling Club Kiosk and the bringing down of a couple of trees along the river (which damaged railings). The Environment Agency attended and removed the large debris that had been washed down Hogshaw Brook.
This included a house door and some wooden railway sleepers. There removal meant the water could run away quickly. The rest of the park has very quickly recovered.

We are delighted that our application to receive a donation of 30 Japanese Cherry Blossom Trees was successful. The Japan Society is donating these trees to share their tradition of an annual stunning Sakura Cherry Blossom Festival and spread the wellbeing this season brings. The trees are due to arrive and be planted in Ashwood Park in November 2020. These will make a delightful addition to the parks varied fauna.

Buxton Means Business Receives Action Grant

From Derbyshire County Councils “Now” Newsletter

"More than 460 groups across Derbyshire have received a cash boost from our Action Grants scheme.

Buxton Town Team is one of the groups already benefitting. The group of volunteers applied for an Action Grant to help publicise their ‘Buxton Business Alert and Information System’ – a secure app that lets businesses and individuals quickly share important information such as upcoming events and warnings of criminal or anti-social behaviour.

We were happy to support their application as were Derbyshire Police who believe it helps to prevent crime.

Grants totalling £375,000 have been handed out so far to help fund activities including sports training and facilities, theatre groups, choirs, music events, allotments, developing apps, art workshops, adventure activities for youth groups, counselling support, building refurbishment, equipment for community buildings, toddler groups, green initiatives, clubs for older people and activities to support disabled people.
The current bidding round closes on 30th September and with more than £1m still in the pot there’s plenty of opportunities for even more local groups to benefit."

The Thursday Night Summer Action Group is Back!

Starting Thursday 18th July at Turners Memorial

The summer Thursday Evenings Action Team will meet at 7.00 pm every Thursday in August at Turner’s Memorial. Everyone welcome. No skills needed, just enthusiasm - and a sense of humour helps.
We have a list of jobs, some of which are weather dependent, painting benches, bridges and railings for instance, so we make up our minds which direction to take depending on which way the wind blows.  Literally!

So, please make a note of Thursdays: 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th and bring gloves and good footwear. If the weather is fine we’ll need brushes; paint and varnish will be supplied as will brushes, but if you have any spare brushes or containers to decant paint into (takeaway boxes are good), please bring them. Otherwise, we might be litter picking, weeding, pruning etc. so if you’ve got useful stuff, please bring it with you in case it’s needed.
