Wishing you a Merry Christmas and

a Happy New Year

COVID-19

Directors continue to meet virtually, most recently on  December 10.  Updates from the meeting and from projects are covered below.

Updates :

  • Buxton in Bloom in winter - pretty as a picture
  • Slopes Team - January dates
  • Japanese Cherry trees planted in Ashwood Park
  • Buxton Neighbourhood Area and Forum consultation
Currently volunteering is one of the activities allowed in Lockdown 2 - subject to social distancing and the rule of six - our groups will continue to go out and about around town.
If government guidelines change, we will amend our plans to meet any new guidelines.
Buxton in Bloomin' Winter
Thanks to all who helped dress the town in a Covid safe way at the end of last month. It looks great.
We are planning to take them down over the weekend of 2nd/ 3rd Jan. Details to follow when it is clearer what the Covid rules will be at that time.

Slopes team
January will see the Slopes team out and about around Buxton on Thursday 7th, Saturday 16th, Thursday 21st and Saturday  30th - weather permitting.

Meet at 10am on the car park at the top of The Slopes in front of the town hall. Finish 12 noon.

I(f you'd like to be involved - just pop along -  updates each week are sent out via a WhatsApp group - please to ask to be added to the group!

Please remember to respect social distancing at all times.

However, now that the nights are drawing in, the Thursday evening sessions have gone into hibernation until the Spring.

So that we can start planning our return in Spring 2021, please let us know If you have any ideas about areas of the town that need a little TLC.

Japanese Cherry trees planted in Ashwood Park
18 months ago Buxton Town Team was lucky to be chosen by the Japan Society to receive a donation of 30 Japanese Cherry Trees for Ashwood Park. The trees have now arrived and have been planted - see photos below, alongside one of cherry blossoms and Mount Fuji.

The annual Cherry Blossom Festival is a national holiday in Japan, and the Japanese Embassy wanted to share the joy of this part of their culture around the world and so have gifted Sakura trees.

Sadly we could not arrange an event to mark the planting event, but it is hoped that we can arrange a celebration event when the trees are in bloom next year..

High Peak Borough Council kindly organised the tree planting on behalf of the Town Team.
Application to designate a Neighbourhood Area and Forum for Buxton

The consultation on plans for the Neighbourhood Area and Forum for Buxton runs until 12 January 2021. Having neighbourhood area and forum designations will mean that the preparation of a neighbourhood plan or neighbourhood development order for Buxton can begin.
