Dear Faith Family,
Last Sunday, I had the privilege of running in my first half-marathon. It was an incredible experience. I am so thankful for the many folks who encouraged me along the way. The truth is, I never could have done it on my own!
In fact, there were several points during the race when I wasn’t sure I was going to make it to the finish line. You see, three days before the race, I got what I assume was the flu or at the very least - a really bad cold. I had a fever, chills, muscle aches, headache, dizziness, and a chest full of congestion. I honestly thought that the only thing that might be running on race day was my nose. I was so disappointed!
The good news is, about 24 hours before the race, my fever finally broke. I was no longer contagious, but I wasn’t exactly in any condition to run 13 miles. However, I knew that I wanted to try.
Last Sunday, I realized that running a race is not always easy. Life doesn’t always give you ideal conditions. And, the journey is often longer than you expect. So…. If you want to finish the race - you better know why you are running, whom you are running for, and surround yourself with people who will encourage you to keep going!
This is what I love about the Church! The Church gives us our “who” and our “why"! But, it also provides us with the support to be more than we could be on our own!
Paul writes in Philippians 1:3-6, “I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”
I am so thankful for our church family!
A quick shout-out to Clayton Knight! Not only did he preach for me last Sunday, but he is celebrating his 1 year anniversary as our Youth Minister! We are so thankful for Clayton and Ruthie! Take a moment to congratulate him on his work anniversary at First Hewitt!
You are loved!

Pastor Chris Sammons
PS. I can't wait to celebrate the 3rd week of Advent this Sunday. It is the week of JOY!
