Barry Smith - NZ Football Historian - Awarded
Presented with the Queen’s Service Medal, Smith has gathered many other awards in his long career. He was the editor of the New Zealand Soccer Annual for 15 years and an honorary historian for NZ Football.
Father of John Smith who played during his Dunedin student years for Otago and Dunedin City, the immensely likeable father Barry was a regular visitor to Dunedin to watch his son, and has been NZ's lynch pin for football stats and Records - he is still the 'go to' man for all things Fitba.
"My dream is a football museum akin to the Rugby Museum in Palmerston North," he said. "I have endeavoured to collect anything ever written about the sport of football in New Zealand and regularly fill 30 or more scrapbooks with cuttings on the game. I am an avid collector of local football programmes."
Well done Barry - good luck for the Future, Rab
