Finding budgets on vulekamali.gov.za is easier than ever

During the month of May big improvements have been rolled out to the search functionality on vulekamali.gov.za. You are now able to easily find contributed data, national and provincial department budgets through an interactive search interface. Start searching right now by typing your phrase into the 'Search vulekamali' box at the top of the website.

Join organisations such as SPII, PSAM and the Centre for Child Law by contributing your budget information to vulekamali.gov.za. The vulekamali website is an exciting opportunity for members of the public, CSOs, academia and business to contribute their own budget information and analysis to the website, for all to see. Send us your information and analysis and help to promote meaningful engagement with budget information to foster public participation in the budget process.

The budget process - what’s happening in June?


What are Treasuries, Departments, Parliament and Provincial Legislatures busy with?

  • National Treasury compiles departmental budget submissions and engage with departments to assist with submissions. Function groups hold discussions and begin formulating recommendations to budget technical structures, including the Ministers' Committee on the Budget Technical Committee (MTEC) and the Technical Committee on Finance (TCF).
  • Departments engage with analysts on departmental budgets and the drafting of budget submissions.
  • Parliament decides on priorities for the third Parliamentary term.
  • Parliament conducts oversight visits, study tours and special projects.
  • Parliament holds the "Youth Parliament".


How can you participate?

  • Lobby parliament, parliamentary committees and MPs for specific oversight visits.
  • Participate in parliamentary oversight visits.
  • Participate in youth parliaments.
  • Engage government departments on the likely content of their budget submissions.
